"Jubraj's House", the official residence of the Jubraj - Crown Prince Bir Tikendrajit Singh of Manipur Kingdom. Circa April 1891

Historical Background:

The Location: The structure was a prominent, multi-tiered fortified brick building located near the outer defensive walls of the Grand Palace compound inside Kangla Fort, Imphal.

The Military Siege: On the morning of March 24, 1891, British forces led by Captain Butcher and supported by Lieutenant Lugard launched a surprise dawn raid targeting this exact building to arrest Prince Tikendrajit.

The Escalation: Manipuri defenders fought fiercely from the surrounding bastions and walls to protect the Prince, who managed to escape into the main palace building. The intense battle at the Jubraj's house resulted in significant casualties on both sides and directly catalyzed the outbreak of the Anglo-Manipur War.
