The stage is set for another important perspective on the future of learning spaces.

Meet the voice bringing 25+ years of research into the PULSE conversation.

PULSE 2026 welcomes a perspective shaped by decades of research across learning, architecture and child development.

We are delighted to welcome a distinguished voice to the PULSE 2026 conversation- Dr. Reiko Shimokura, Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at Meijo University, Japan.

With more than 25 years of research into how learning environments influence children’s development, learning and well-being, Dr. Shimokura brings a thoughtful perspective to K–12 learning spaces.

Her work spans open-plan schools, active learning, inclusive and special-needs education, with research across the UK, Sweden, Norway, Australia and the United States.
Her work offers a meaningful bridge between pedagogy and place- between how children learn and how spaces can support that learning.

At PULSE 2026: Where Culture Meets Learning, architects, educators, school leaders and designers come together to question, exchange and shape what learning environments need to become next.

The next learning space might be right outside the classroom.

At the American Embassy School, New Delhi, the landscape becomes an extension of learning- bringing together play, wellbeing, collaboration and ecology.

Stepped seating supports informal learning.
Connected paths encourage movement and interaction.
Native planting strengthens biodiversity.
Water and mist create a cooler microclimate for Delhi’s intense summers.

Inspired by Joseph Allen Stein’s legacy, the design shows how thoughtful educational architecture can make every space work harder.

The question for schools isn’t always “How much more space do we need?”
It’s “How can our existing spaces do more?”

What if architecture could give someone a second chance?

In Pocheon, South Korea, the Second Chance Library transforms a former parking edge into a place for young people to read, create, learn, perform and belong.

Its triangular form follows the slope, pairing a rugged concrete-and-stone exterior with a warm timber interior. An open centre allows the library to shift between reading, workshops, art, presentations and performance.

But the real story is ownership. The teenagers helped shape the spaces, choose their interests and curate the library.

Here, architecture becomes pedagogy—giving young people choice, voice and confidence to imagine who they can become.

A library not just for stories, but for new beginnings.

Before a teacher speaks, the space has already begun teaching.

At PULSE 2025, Mr. Darshan M***a, Director, AdityaEdu, invited us to rethink the relationship between learning and the environments we create through his session, "From Space to State of Mind."

His message was simple yet profound: when spaces are thoughtfully designed for children-child-friendly, child-sized, and purposeful- they quietly nurture curiosity, confidence, independence, and belonging before the first lesson even begins.

Our sincere gratitude to Mr. Darshan M***a for reminding us that great learning environments don't just support education- they shape it.

This is the spirit of PULSE- bringing together architects, educators, school leaders, designers, and changemakers to explore how pedagogy and design can create better futures for every learner.

Not every child can visit a museum. So this museum chose to visit them. 🚌

Imagine experiencing history, science, art, and culture- not inside a grand museum, but inside a bus that arrives at your doorstep.

Designed for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai, the Museum On Wheels is a travelling museum that has been bringing immersive cultural learning to children across rural Maharashtra since 2018.

More than a vehicle, it's a thoughtfully designed learning environment. From interactive exhibits, artefacts, touchscreens, and audiovisual displays to flexible vitrines, child-friendly ergonomics, adaptive lighting, and improved circulation, every design decision was made to create an authentic museum experience- anywhere.

This museum reminds us that great learning isn't defined by walls. It's defined by access. When design meets purpose, even a bus can become a classroom, a museum, and a gateway to curiosity.

Because sometimes, the most powerful learning spaces don't stay in one place- they travel.
