Sustainability is often perceived as a cost. In reality, it is a design decision.

Addressing projects with budget and space limitations, Dr. Vinod Gupta reframes sustainability as a matter of approach, not expense—supported by timeless examples like the Bhunga huts of western India.

For students, it results in healthier, more adaptive learning environments.
For architects, it underscores the importance of climate-responsive, resource-efficient design.

Most schools clear the site. This one grew from it.

At EDEN Kindergarten, existing mango and coconut trees shape the design—placing each block between them to create open, flowing learning spaces. With earthy materials and outdoor spillovers, the school feels intuitive, playful, and deeply connected to nature.

✨ A refreshing take on how schools can be designed.

Today’s feature explores a school shaped by its context—where design emerges from intent and understanding.

At EDEN Kindergarten, each block is carefully placed between existing trees, allowing nature to guide form, movement, and experience—resulting in spaces that feel open, intuitive, and responsive to learning.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Ranjith B S for his support in facilitating and sharing this project.

Glad to feature this thoughtful approach to school design in India.

Prestige University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh | Sanjay Puri Architects

Reimagining the institutional typology.

Rather than a monolithic block, this 32-acre campus unfolds as a stepped, multi-level public landscape-where administration, library, classrooms, and auditoriums are seamlessly integrated into an interactive section.

The result? A 9,000-seat open-air auditorium, naturally ventilated interiors, and daylight-filled courtyards-reducing energy dependence while elevating spatial experience.

A compelling convergence of form, function, and climate intelligence.

Thermal comfort in schools is often overlooked- yet it quietly shapes learning outcomes.

When classrooms are overly air-conditioned while outdoor environments remain harsh, children experience a constant physical disconnect - impacting attention, adaptability, and overall well-being.

Dr. Vinod Gupta highlights the need for balanced transitions between indoor and outdoor environments—where design prioritises comfort, health, and sustainability.

For students, this means a more stable, focused learning experience.
For architects and planners, it’s a call for climate-sensitive, human-centric design.

🎙️ Hosted by Akshay Bajaj (GLSN), this conversation brings attention to the finer details that truly define great learning spaces.

Across India, 74,000+ students are learning beyond textbooks through farm-based education by SowGood Foundation.

📍 20,000+ sq. m. of school farms
📍 60+ tons of waste diverted

But the real impact?
Children who understand ecosystems, think sustainably, and grow into empathetic, responsible individuals.

This is where:
• Maths is measured in farm beds
• Science is discovered in soil
• Responsibility is learned through care

Built on Vichaar → Aachar → Prachar, this is learning that goes from awareness to action to advocacy.

This is the future of learning.
