ITANAGAR, May 28 : The Arunachal Pradesh Jaiv Vividhata & Mvm Liid Soonam / Beej Utsav 2026 and Stakeholder Consultation on Biohappiness and Climate Resilience will be held on May 28โ29, at Government Higher Secondary School, Yazali, Keyi Panyor district.
The programme is being co-organised by the 16th Yachuli MLA Office, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Keyi Panyor, Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), and the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), Chennai. The event is being supported by NABARD, PPVFRA, and the National Biodiversity Authority.
The two-day event will bring together farmers, indigenous community representatives, policymakers, researchers, scientists, civil society organisations, youth groups, and development practitioners to deliberate on agrobiodiversity conservation, indigenous seed systems, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and traditional ecological knowledge systems in Arunachal Pradesh.
The consultation is centred around the concept of โBiohappinessโ, which emphasises the relationship between biodiversity conservation, cultural identity, ecological sustainability, and community well-being.
The concept of โBiohappinessโ is a framework developed and popularised by renowned agricultural scientist Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, widely regarded as the architect of Indiaโs Green Revolution and founder of the MSSRF. The concept seeks to connect biodiversity conservation with human well-being, sustainable livelihoods, nutritional security, cultural continuity, and ecological resilience.
The event aims to promote dialogue on community-led conservation models and resilient food systems rooted in indigenous knowledge and local ecological practices.
A major highlight of the programme will be the Arunachal Seed Festival and Agrobiodiversity & Sustainable Livelihoods Exhibition, where community seed conservers, particularly from Nyishi and Apatani communities, along with government departments, farmer groups, and grassroots institutions, will showcase indigenous crop varieties, traditional farming practices, biodiversity-based livelihoods, and sustainable innovations.
The programme will feature multiple thematic panel sessions focusing on biodiversity conservation, traditional knowledge revival, youth engagement, climate adaptation strategies, farmer seed systems, and sustainable agricultural futures in the Eastern Himalayan region.
State Agriculture and Allied Sectors Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu will inaugurate the event. Additionally, representatives from PPV&FRA, NABARD, Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Rajiv Gandhi University, ICAR institutions, and experts working in biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development, and farmer representatives will be part of the two-day discussions.
The organisers hope that the consultation will evolve a stakeholder-driven roadmap for strengthening agrobiodiversity conservation, resilient livelihoods, and community-centred development approaches in Arunachal Pradesh.
