CYLINDER SHORTAGE, THIEVES’ ADVANTAGE — ITANAGAR POLICE BUSTS LPG THEFT TRAIL
Itanagar Police has arrested two accused persons, namely Yikar Taba and Lingko Tare, in connection with repeated theft of domestic LPG cylinders across Itanagar township.
A complaint regarding theft of one LPG cylinder from the verandah of a house at Jollang led Itanagar Police to uncover a wider theft-and-disposal pattern.
During investigation in Itanagar P.S. Case No. 121/2026 u/s 305(a) BNS, the police team acted on local inputs, intercepted the accused persons, and recovered the stolen LPG cylinder connected with the present case.
Further investigation revealed that the accused persons were allegedly conducting recce of residential areas, identifying vulnerable houses where LPG cylinders were kept in verandahs/open spaces, and stealing the cylinders when the houses appeared unattended. Taking advantage of the ongoing LPG shortage panic, they allegedly used local contacts and demand through social media to sell the stolen cylinders quickly at lower prices.
So far, 10 LPG cylinders have been recovered from receivers across Itanagar township. Further investigation is continuing to identify other victims, recover remaining stolen cylinders, verify receivers, and establish the complete theft-and-disposal chain.
