Yupia, 18th September 2025:
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Papum Pare, successfully conducted a mock drill on an earthquake scenario today as part of the national preparedness initiative.
The exercise aimed to test the readiness of line departments, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and the general public in responding to earthquake emergencies.
As part of the drill, earthquake and its collateral damages were simulated at multiple key locations including the DC Office Yupia Complex, IOCL Depot Emchi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyapeeth Yupia, and Donyi Polo Airport Itanagar. Upon receiving disaster information, all emergency rescue teams were swiftly dispatched from the staging area to the respective locations.
A special highlight of the drill was the participation of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who demonstrated specialized rescue skills, including the use of sniffer dogs for search operations and the evacuation process from high-rise buildings.
Adding further strength to the exercise, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and APDA Mitras actively participated as first community responders, showcasing the vital role of trained volunteers in disaster response.
The entire mock drill was closely monitored by Incident Commander, ADC Tame Yajum and DDMO Nima Tashi who appreciated the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders.
Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav, Chairperson DDMA, Papum Pare, emphasized the importance of such preparedness activities in building resilience and ensuring minimal loss of life and property during real calamities.
