Two-Day Capacity Building Training for PWD Engineers Concludes in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, 25 July: The two-day capacity building training programme for PWD Engineers, jointly organised by the Chief Engineer's Office (Training & Vigilance), PWD, and the Indian Buildings Congress (IBC), Arunachal Pradesh Chapter, concluded today at the Golden Jubilee Banquet Hall. Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest, accompanied by Principal Secretary Kaling Tayeng, IBC State Chairman Dr. Toli Basar, Chief Engineer Rimmar Tasso, and other dignitaries.

Arunachal's Aalo Urban Development Division gets FICCI Urban Innovation Award 2025

DELHI: The Urban Development, Aalo Division, West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, was on Thursday awarded the prestigious FICCI Urban Innovation Award 2025 in the category of innovative urban infrastructure for its transformative Puak Ghat Riverfront Development Project. The project was shortlisted among the top 3 entries in its category amongst 80 entries from all states and emerged as the Jury mention award under the category of โ€˜Smart Public Spacesโ€™. The award, conferred by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), was received by Hali Welly, Executive Engineer, Urban Development, at the 8th Edition of the Urban Challenge Summit & Awards Ceremony (6th Edition of the Awards), themed 'Innovate, Integrate, Sustain', held at FICCI Federation House, New Delhi, on July 24, 2025.

The Puak Ghat Riverfront Development Project constructed near the confluence of Yomgo and Sipu rivers, has revitalised an unstable and unhygienic riverfront, previously prone to erosion and flooding, into a vibrant public space. The project features a cafeteria, lush parks, open-air gyms, scenic walkways, and modern amenities, including parking facilities, public utilities, illumination, and a 250-meter RCC retaining wall to combat erosion and flooding. Inaugurated on December 2, 2024, by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the project was developed at an initial cost of Rs. 4.95 crore.
Hali Welly, Executive Engineer, Urban Development, played a pivotal role in overcoming significant challenges, including rising river levels during monsoons, land disputes, election-related disruptions, and landslides affecting transportation routes. The initiative has led to a remarkable 70% reduction in illegal parking, promotes environmental sustainability, boosts local businesses, enhances community well-being, and is poised to elevate tourism while creating income opportunities for local communities.

Itanagar, July 24: In a significant development towards regional peace, two United Tani Army (UTA) cadresโ€”Techi Nera and Tok Takinโ€”surrendered at the Arunachal Pradesh Police Headquarters in the presence of Home Minister Mama Natung. Lauding the move, Natung reiterated that the Tani community does not support the UTA and urged other misguided youths to renounce violence. As part of a government-backed rehabilitation scheme, surrendered cadres will receive vocational training, a monthly stipend starting at โ‚น6,000 from January 2025, and a โ‚น4 lakh reintegration grant after three years.

NHPC Director (Projects) reviews progress of 2880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project

July 24, 2025
Itanagar, Jul 23: Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC Limited, undertook a comprehensive visit to the 2880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMPP) from July 20 to 22.

During the visit, Singh reviewed key components of the project, including the Dam Site, Diversion Tunnel, Cable cm Ventilation Tunnel (CCVT), Main Access Tunnel (MAT), Adit, and Residential Colony areas. He conducted a thorough inspection of ongoing construction activities and provided valuable suggestions to enhance the pace and efficiency of project ex*****on.

A review meeting was also convened during the visit, in which the Executive Director and Head of Project (HoP), DMPP, presented a detailed status update of the project. Singh appreciated the commitment and synergy demonstrated by the project team and encouraged them to maintain momentum to achieve critical project milestones within scheduled timelines. (EoA)

On July 4, 2025, the Longding District Students' Union (LDSU) under the leadership of Sh. Nokphe Pansa, President LDSU, Gen. Secretary Sh. Mannai Wangsu and Education Secretary Sh. Abo Nganam organised a significant district-wide dharna to address the alarming shortage of school teachers impacting educational quality in the region. Recognising the adverse effects of this shortage on studentsโ€™ learning experiences and outcomes, the LDSU took proactive measures to elevate awareness and demand immediate action from local authorities.

Union members orchestrated rallies in every village school throughout the Longding District, bringing together students, educators, and concerned community members. These rallies served as a platform to amplify their collective voices, underscoring the urgent necessity for hiring qualified educators to ensure that every child has access to a proper and enriching education. The participants emphasised the pressing need for intervention, calling on government officials to acknowledge and address this critical issue.

The initiative garnered widespread appreciation from the Longding community and the local administration, reflecting a unified demand for change. In response, the State Government acted swiftly to the Union's appeal, facilitating the transfer of 33 PRT/TGT/PGT teachers to the Longding District within a short timeframe.

The LDSU extends its heartfelt gratitude to Education Minister Sh. Pasang Dorjee Sona and his department for their prompt response, as well as to the Longding District Administration, led by Kunal Yadav, IAS. Their unwavering support and serious attention to the issues raised by the Union were pivotal in mobilising the necessary resources to address the teaching crisis effectively. Through these collaborative efforts, the LDSU remains committed to advocating for the educational rights of every child in Longding District.
