Naharlagun, August 3: A grand felicitation ceremony was held at Sangdo Karate Academy, Polo Colony, Naharlagun, to honour seven karate athletes from Arunachal Pradesh who brought glory to India with their outstanding performances at the 10th South Asian Karate Championship 2026 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The event was attended by parents, well-wishers, members of the karate fraternity, and the local community, who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the medal-winning athletes.

Among the seven medalists was Abab Sangdo, who, representing Team India, won the Gold Medal in the Senior Male Team Kata event. With this victory, the Indian Senior Male Team Kata squad successfully defended its title, becoming Back-to-Back South Asian Champions (2025 & 2026).

In total, seven players from Sangdo Karate Academy represented India at the championship and collectively won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in their respective categories, bringing immense pride to Arunachal Pradesh and the nation.

Adding to his achievements, Abab Sangdo has also qualified for the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in Scotland, United Kingdom, from 5 to 8 September 2026.

Abab Sangdo’s international achievements continue to inspire the karate community. Earlier, at the 10th Commonwealth Karate Championship 2024 in Durban, South Africa, he created history by winning two Gold medals, one Silver medal, and one Bronze medal, making him one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most successful karate athletes on the international stage.

The felicitation programme was graced by the Director of the Sports Authority of Arunachal Pradesh as the Chief Guest. Tana Tagi Tara, Sports Secretary of AAPSU, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Blagang Londa, Vice President of the Arunachal Athletes Association, was also present to congratulate the athletes for their remarkable achievements.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries praised the dedication, discipline, and hard work of all seven athletes and appreciated the relentless efforts of Sangdo Karate Academy in producing national and international champions. They stated that the achievements of these young karatekas would inspire aspiring sportspersons across Arunachal Pradesh.

The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where all seven medal-winning athletes were honoured for their outstanding performances. The gathering celebrated their success and expressed confidence that the athletes would continue to bring greater laurels to both Arunachal Pradesh and India in future international competitions.
