Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated 218 fisheries projects virtually, including India's first Integrated Aqua Park (IAP) in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district.
The IAP, built at a cost of ₹43.59 crore, aims to enhance local aquaculture, provide new income opportunities for farmers, and boost livelihoods in the region.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu participated in the inauguration from his office, while Fisheries minister Gabriel D. Wangsu, Ziro MLA Hage Appa and other officials attended the event at the project site in Tarin.
Khandu expressed gratitude to Modi for his support, stating, that the “Aqua Park will revolutionize the state's fisheries sector, driving sustainable growth and prosperity.”
Back in Ziro, Wangsu called the inauguration a momentous occasion for Arunachal.
He noted that the IAP is the first project of its kind in the northeastern region under PMMSY, and a significant achievement under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Khandu.
He encouraged youth and entrepreneurs to utilize the park’s facilities and emphasized the need to sustain the government's efforts in improving the fisheries sector.
The IAP, completed before the scheduled date, is a centrally sponsored scheme project undertaken by the state’s department of fisheries in collaboration with the department of hydropower development and the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. It is a milestone achievement under the 100 days action plan.
Spanning over 7 hectares, the park features an aqua museum, raceway, retail fish market, brood bank, hatcheries, disease diagnostic and quality testing lab, fish feed mill, training cm conference hall, ice plant-cum-cold storage, refrigerator vehicle, and Matsya Seva Kendra.
It aims to improve fish production, strengthen infrastructure, introduce advanced technology, and promote research and development.
The park’s scenic location and facilities are expected to attract tourists, generate revenue, and create employment opportunities.
Ziro, already a popular tourist destination, will now offer visitors an additional attraction with the Integrated Aqua Park.
