ANSU Appeals to TMPK to Withdraw Road, Economic Blockade, Calls for Peaceful Resolution
Itanagar, August 13: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has appealed to the Takam Mising Porin Kébang (TMPK) to withdraw its indefinite road and economic blockade at key entry points to Arunachal Pradesh, urging both sides to exercise restraint and resolve the Hime Village (Badati–Mingmang) incident through dialogue and lawful mechanisms.
In a letter dated August 13, ANSU President Shri Ashok Doka appealed to TMPK President Shri Tilak Doley to reconsider the blockade at Banderdewa Gate, Gumto Gate, Hollongi Gate, Puhumara–Kimin Road, Kimin and Gogamukh.
ANSU said the blockade was causing hardship to innocent citizens, particularly people residing in Nyishi settlements along the inter-State boundary, who, according to the organisation, had no connection with the Hime Village incident.
The students’ body said it understood and shared the concerns and grievances arising from the incident and stood in solidarity with TMPK in its pursuit of justice and protection of affected people. However, it maintained that any action restricting the movement of people and essential goods between the two neighbouring states could adversely affect the long-standing peaceful relationship between communities living along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border.
ANSU also expressed concern over the reported targeting and assault of Shri Maga Tago, a young police officer from the Nyishi community, at Gogamukh during the blockade. Describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable, ANSU appealed to TMPK to cooperate with the competent authorities in identifying and apprehending those responsible.
The union referred to the Mising–Nyishi Treaty of Friendship, signed on October 29, 2025, and stressed the importance of preserving the spirit of friendship and peaceful coexistence between the two communities.
On the broader inter-State boundary issue, ANSU pointed to the 2022 Namsai Declaration, signed by the Governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and said the border dispute should be addressed in accordance with the spirit and provisions of the agreement.
“Differences over the boundary should not be allowed to damage these longstanding bonds or create hostility among neighbouring communities,” ANSU said.
The organisation further stated that it had already approached the Government of Arunachal Pradesh seeking an impartial inquiry into the Hime Village incident and justice for those who sustained injuries.
ANSU warned that prolonging the blockade could further aggravate the situation instead of contributing to a meaningful resolution. It urged both sides to encourage their respective governments and competent authorities to address the matter through an impartial inquiry, meaningful dialogue and lawful mechanisms.
Calling for maximum restraint from all stakeholders, ANSU appealed for a peaceful, permanent and mutually acceptable resolution of all border-related issues.
“Let dialogue prevail over confrontation, and let peace prevail over conflict,” the union said.
