Baby Elephant Rescued from Muddy Pit in Deomali Forest Division
Deomali, July 5, 2025:
In a commendable display of swift action and community effort, the Deomali Forest Division successfully rescued a wild baby elephant that had been trapped in a muddy pit for nearly two days.
Upon receiving information about the stranded elephant in evening, a dedicated team of forest personnel, led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Diwang Lowang and under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Deomali, immediately rushed to the site. The location, reportedly an old abandoned well, had turned into a muddy trap for the young elephant.
RFO Lowang was joined by forest officials Kaling Libang (Forester), Leamkai Wangpan (Forester), Leki Ingo (Forester), and O.P. Singh (Forest Guard), along with other staff members of the department. Local residents also played a crucial role, actively assisting the rescue team during the operation that lasted for approximately two hours.
Following the successful rescue, RFO Diwang Lowang expressed his gratitude to the local community for their prompt support and cooperation. As a token of appreciation, he awarded them with ₹10,000.
The rescued baby elephant is reported to be safe, and the Forest Department is monitoring its condition before deciding on the next course of action.
