Itanagar, Oct 28:
The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO) today held a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club (APC), reiterating their four-point demands submitted earlier to the state government.

The organisation called for the immediate cancellation of the illegal construction of a Jama Masjid/Madarsa within the twin capital complex, removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants residing in Itanagar and Naharlagun, recognition of only two legal Jama Masjids in the capital region, and a ban on weekly markets in areas like Doimukh and Hollongi.

APIYO stated that the growing presence of illegal immigrants poses a serious threat to the indigenous population and local culture. The organisation has given the government 15 days to fulfill their demands, warning that failure to act within the timeframe will lead to a democratic movement to safeguard the rights of indigenous people.

Itanagar, Oct 26:
The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Sunday observed the sixth death anniversary of veteran journalist late Taro Chatung at the Press Club, Itanagar, paying heartfelt tributes to the pioneer of journalism in Arunachal Pradesh.

The media fraternity fondly remembered Chatung for his fearless reporting, unwavering dedication, and pioneering contribution to the growth of media in the state. Widely regarded as the founding father of electronic media in Arunachal Pradesh, Chatung was a recipient of the State Gold Medal Award whose legacy continues to inspire generations of journalists.

Born on March 1, 1963, Chatung passed away on October 26, 2019, after battling cancer at TRIHMS, Naharlagun.

Speaking on the occasion, APC Vice President Bengia Ajum highlighted Chatungโ€™s remarkable contributions to the stateโ€™s media landscape and urged young journalists to emulate his passion and integrity.
โ€œAs journalists, we should uphold his legacy by pursuing problems, not peopleโ€”by focusing on issues, not agendas,โ€ Ajum said.

Taro Bina, wife of the late journalist, expressed gratitude to the media fraternity for their continued support. โ€œChatung was deeply committed to his work. Journalism is not easyโ€”it demands courage and sacrifice, something he always embodied,โ€ she said emotionally.

APC General Secretary Damien Lepcha and APUWJ General Secretary Sonam Jelly also recalled Chatungโ€™s humility, wit, and unwavering honesty that earned him immense respect among peers.

Earlier, floral tributes were offered to Chatungโ€™s portrait, followed by a minute of silence in his memory.

Itanagar, October 25, 2025
The recent death of 19-year-old Gomchu Yekar has put Arunachal Pradesh under the spotlight, prompting questions about administration, oversight, and accountability. Yekar, a contractual Multi-Tasking Staff worker, was found dead at his rented accommodation in Lekhi village earlier this month. Investigators recovered handwritten notes in which he mentioned alleged harassment and coercion involving senior officials.

Hours later, executive engineer Likwang Lowang, also named in the notes, died at his residence in Khonsa in what authorities describe as an apparent su***de.

In response, the Arunachal Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, to investigate the circumstances of both deaths and the allegations of misconduct. The SIT is coordinating with multiple districts and agencies to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry.

A lookout notice has also been issued for former ICR Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom, currently posted as Special Under Secretary (PWD) in Delhi. Police are seeking information on his whereabouts, following reports that he was mentioned in Yekarโ€™s notes.

Authorities emphasize that the investigation will establish facts impartially and follow all legal procedures. Local organizations and residents have expressed concern and hope that the inquiry will clarify the situation, while also highlighting the need for oversight and accountability in public administration.

โ€œIt is important to ensure that the investigation is fair and facts are established before drawing conclusions,โ€ said an official.

The case continues to evolve, with the SIT expected to provide updates as the inquiry progresses.

Itanagar, Oct 22:
The Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) today held a press conference raising serious concerns over the prolonged negligence faced by five villages โ€” Depi, Depi-Moli, Detak, Sido, and Korang โ€” which have not received any Panchayat-related benefits for several years due to the pending transfer of jurisdiction from Lower Siang District to East Siang District.

ABKYW informed that although the Arunachal Pradesh Government has already issued an official gazette notification transferring the administrative control of these villages to East Siang, the Panchayat jurisdiction has still not been implemented. As a result, the villagers have been deprived of government schemes and development benefits for a long time.

The youth wing also highlighted the recurring flood problems affecting these areas, urging the authorities to take immediate measures to mitigate the issue and support the affected families.

ABKYW has demanded that the State Election Commission and the government take urgent action to officially transfer the Panchayat jurisdiction before the upcoming December Panchayat elections. The organization warned that if their demands are not met, the villagers of the five affected villages will boycott the elections.

โ€œThe people have suffered for years without any development benefits or proper representation. If the government fails to act now, the villagers will have no choice but to boycott the polls,โ€ said ABKYW leaders.

Copies of the memorandum have been submitted to the Chief Minister, the Panchayati Raj Minister, the President of ABK, and the Deputy Commissioner of East Siang District for immediate attention.

Itanagar, Oct 21:
The Arunachal Pradesh Police on Tuesday observed the 66th Police Commemoration Day to honour the supreme sacrifice and unwavering dedication of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The Police Commemoration Day, observed annually on October 21 across India, marks the tragic yet heroic incident of October 21, 1959, when ten Indian police personnel were martyred in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh (Aksai Chin).

The solemn ceremony, held at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Banderdewa, was attended by police officers, veterans, and families of the martyrs. Smti Genden Tsumo also offered prayers and paid tribute to her late husband, Lt. CT Thutan Tsering of 4th IRBn, Arunachal Pradesh Police, who lost his life while on duty.

Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister graced the occasion and paid floral tribute to the martyrs. In his address, he reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the police personnel would never be forgotten and assured that the government remains steadfast in honouring their service.

He stated, โ€œTheir courage and sacrifice remind us that every time a police officer dons the uniform, he or she faces risks unknown. On this Commemoration Day, we reaffirm our pledge to support the brave men and women of our police force, care for their families, and uphold the values of duty, integrity, and service they lived by.โ€

The event concluded with a moment of silence in honour of all police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
