Aalo, July 15, 2025:
Arunachal Pradesh mourns the passing of one of its most revered and pioneering figures, Shri Morge Ete, who breathed his last today at his residence in Aalo. Born in Humgo Rigo Darka village to Late Limor Ete and Late Jopu Angu Ete, Shri Ete’s life was a remarkable journey of resilience, intellect, and public service.
While official school records mention his birth year as 1944, oral accounts place his birth closer to 1935. Orphaned at a young age, Shri Ete rose above life’s early challenges with unwavering determination and a thirst for education. Though he narrowly missed being part of the first batch at the Middle English School in Aalo (1947–57), he proudly became part of the second batch (1948–58).
His academic achievements were trailblazing for the time:
M.E. School, Aalo (1948–58)
Matriculation from Pasighat High School (1958–60)
Graduation in Economics from St. Edmund's College, Shillong (1960–65)
M.A. (Economics) and LL.B from Gauhati University (1965–68)
Shri Ete holds the distinguished honour of being the first person from Arunachal Pradesh to obtain both a Master’s degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). His academic excellence translated into a celebrated public service career, serving as Labour Commissioner and later as a Member of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
A living witness to the political and administrative evolution of Arunachal Pradesh — from North East Frontier Tract (NEFT) to North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), and eventually to its status as the 24th state of the Indian Union — Shri Ete’s insights were deeply valued in the state's formative years.
He stood tall among other luminaries and administrators of early Arunachal Pradesh, including: Protik Potom, Todak Basar, Yomkar Basar, Jomin Tayeng, Karken Riba, Katon Borang, Kabang Borang, Tani Ering, Talom Rukbo, Tomo Riba, Sakuntala Doley Gamlin, Dagmo Jini, and many more.
Shri Morge Ete’s intellectual legacy and contributions to public administration, education, and governance will continue to inspire generations. A true son of Arunachal, he exemplified how courage and education can transform lives and communities.
The state joins his family, friends, and former colleagues in mourning the loss of a pioneer. His journey from an orphaned boy in a remote village to a highly educated civil servant is etched in the history of Arunachal Pradesh.
Final rites and homage ceremonies will be held at his residence in Aalo.
