The Fifth Edition of the Sculpture Park opened on January 28th at Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Vijay Garhi, this year’s edition continues to spark dialogue, curiosity, and connection through the works of 16 contemporary artists.

On view: "Operation Magic Carpet" by Mahbubur Rahman (2023; stainless steel; 40"x82"x30"; 102x208x76cms) is a model of traditional Yemeni architecture that is draped with a keffiyeh (the traditional Arab men's head scarf) to speak of on-going struggles, violence, and the hope of resolution. Rahman was born in 1969 and is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Shibu Natesan: "The Misanthrope" 2024

Natesan's bronze sculpture was inspired by the painting by Pieter Bruegel of the same title.
The figure of the misanthrope is a self-contained one, disappearing behind a mountain-like cloak.

We are grateful to Subodh Gupta for lending 2 amazing works that have not been exhibited before to the Fifth Edition. "Kingdom of Earth" 2022 ( #1) and "Cosmic Calm" 2018 ( #2&3) show the artist's continuing exploration of the use of found objects in sculptures from multiple perspectives.
