यादों में नेताजी। परसराम मदेरणा। In the series In Memory of Netaji। today!
Rajasthan’s of Politics.
Remembering a leader who stood for values over power.
*Early Life and Education ;*
Parasram Maderna was born on July 23, 1926, in Chadi village, Phalodi tehsil of Jodhpur district. Coming from the Maderna clan of the Jat community, he grew up in a modest household where hard work and simplicity were deeply valued.
After completing his primary schooling in his native village, Maderna continued his studies in Jodhpur before moving to Lucknow University, where he earned both a Master’s degree and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). It was during these formative years that he developed a passion for politics and social service, inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
*A Voice for Farmers !*
Maderna’s political awakening coincided with India’s fight for independence. Post-Independence, he returned to Rajasthan and, alongside Baldev Ram Mirdha, strengthened the Marwar Kisan Sabha and Rajasthan Kisan Sabha.
From Village Sarpanch to Assembly Veteran
Maderna’s entry into politics was firmly rooted in grassroots leadership. In 1953, he was elected Sarpanch of Chadi village, marking the beginning of a public life defined by service.
In 1952, he contested his first assembly election from Osian but lost—a setback that only strengthened his resolve. He went on to win in 1957 and 1962, and from 1967 to 1985, he secured four consecutive victories from Bhopalgarh. Later, he was elected from Gudamalani in 1990 and 1993, and once again from Bhopalgarh in 1998.
*The Iron Man of Rajasthan Politics*
Maderna was widely regarded as the “Iron Man of Rajasthan Politics.” His simple attire, trademark Gandhi cap, and steadfast adherence to ethical politics set him apart.
He was deeply disciplined, punctual, and approachable, often communicating with farmers in their own dialects, earning their trust and respect. Despite opportunities to rise to higher positions, he never compromised on his beliefs.
A true leader is remembered not by the chair he occupies but by the values he stands for, colleagues often said of him—a sentiment Maderna embodied throughout his career.
*The End of an Era*
On February 16, 2014, Parasram Maderna passed away at SMS Hospital, Jaipur, after a prolonged illness. His death left Rajasthan mourning the loss of a leader who symbolized integrity and moral strength.
Farmers felt they had lost their Messiah, and many political observers called his passing “the end of an era of values and principles in politics.”
Even today, Maderna remains an enduring figure in Rajasthan’s political memory—a leader who never chased power but inspired generations through his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and service.
