Hawa Mahal, Jaipur
Hawa Mahal, or the "Palace of Winds," was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in Jaipur. Designed by Lal Chand Ustad, it features a five-story facade with 953 small windows, or jharokhas, allowing royal women to observe street festivities unseen. This architectural marvel blends Hindu Rajput and Islamic Mughal styles, made of red and pink sandstone. Originally intended to resemble the crown of Krishna, Hawa Mahal also facilitated a cool breeze throughout the palace, hence its name. Today, it stands as an iconic symbol of Jaipur, attracting numerous tourists with its unique design and historical significance.
