Association marks anniversary with commitment to ethical reporting and protecting the Fourth Estate in India
Maisuma, Srinagar – September 6, 2025 – The Indian Journalist Association, a leading body dedicated to fostering ethical and courageous journalism in India, is proud to announce its 17th anniversary. Since its inception on 5th September, 2008, the association has been at the forefront of championing a free and responsible press, protecting the rights of media-persons, and promoting high standards of reporting across the country.
Over the past 17 years, the association has grown into a powerful voice for journalists, providing support in the face of growing challenges and actively engaging in dialogue with government and civil society on the role of media in nation-building.

The anniversary is a moment to reflect on key milestones, including:
Advocacy for Journalist Protection: Actively campaigning for and contributing to the discourse on journalist protection laws to ensure the safety of those reporting from the ground.

Promoting Ethical Journalism: Instituting awards and workshops to recognize and encourage journalistic work characterized by in-depth analysis, truth-seeking, and unwavering integrity, countering sensationalism and misinformation.

Adapting to the Digital Age: Providing guidance and training to navigate the complexities and challenges of reporting in the digital era, including the use of Artificial Intelligence and addressing paid news concerns.
Celebrating Journalistic Excellence: Annually recognizing the "soldiers of the pen" whose work has made a significant impact on public opinion and government decision-making.

The celebration was attended by Honourable Mr. Ahsan Pardesi, MLA Lal Chowk Constituency, who congratulated IJA for inaugurating a state chapter. “It will add value to the mission that IJA has been working in the country” said Mr Pardesi.

Baramulla, Kashmir- 4th September, 2025- (JKNO) In a move to strengthen its coverage, JKNO today celebrated the grand opening of its new office in Chandilora, Tangmarg. The new bureau, located at Chandilora, will serve as a hub for a growing team of journalists dedicated to reporting on different sectors like politics, business, and cultural developments in the region.
"The opening of our Baramulla bureau marks a significant commitment to providing our audience with in-depth, on-the-ground reporting that is vital to the local community," said Mr. Manzoor Pakhtoon, Editor in Chief, JKNO. Mohammad Faheem Reshi appointed Treasurer and Media Head of JKNPF

Srinagar, Aug 27.8.2025: The Jammu & Kashmir Nationalist People’s Front (JKNPF) has officially appointed Shri Mohammad Faheem Reshi, son of Shri Fayaz Reshi, resident of Zadi Masjid, Safakadal, Srinagar, as the party’s Treasurer-cum-Media Head.

In a brief ceremony held at the party’s central office in Srinagar, Mr. Reshi was welcomed by JKNPF President Shri Muneer Khan and Vice President Shri Jasif Khan. *Man Convicted For Duping A Foreigner, Another Accused Convicted For Submitting Fake 10th Marks Card For Admission: Crime Branch Kashmir*

Srinagar, August 5 The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir on Tuesday said that it has successfully secured convictions in two separate criminal cases, marking a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat economic crimes in the region.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that In the first case, the Court of City Judge Srinagar convicted the accused Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo both the sons of Gulla Mohd Guroo R/o Abi-Karpora, Nehru Park Dalgate Srinagar in case FIR No. 24/2008 under Section 420, 109-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing) after thorough investigation and diligent prosecution by Crime Branch Kashmir. The case pertained to grabbing of an amount of Rs. 34 lakhs from the complainant on the pretext of purchase of a residential immovable property, concealing the fact that the complainant being a foreigner cannot do so for, where the accused was found guilty of causing substantial financial loss to the complainant.

After marathon trial of 12 years the Hon’ble Court of law convicted both the accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000/- per offence.

In the second case, again the Hon’ble Court of City Judge Srinagar delivered a verdict in case FIR No. 54/2002 under Section 420, 468, 471, 120-B RPC of P/S Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing) against seven accused individuals involved in preparing (in connivance with each other) and submitting fake marks card of 10th class for seeking admission for one of the accused in Higher Secondary School.

Following a detailed investigation that uncovered strong documentary, oral evidence and dedicated thorough legal pursuit leading to conviction. The Hon’ble Court of law convicted all seven accused individuals to simple imprisonment for a period of two years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000/- per offence.

These convictions reflect the commitment of Crime Branch Kashmir to uphold the rule of law and bring to justice those involved in white-collar crimes.

The department continues to pursue all such cases with professionalism and legal precision, reads the statement.(GNS)

Indian Journalist Association will become the voice of Kashmiri journalists - Manzoor Ahmad Pakhtoon

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian Journalist Association, Jammu and Kashmir State Unit organized a dialogue session with Kashmiri media persons at Maisuma State Office in Srinagar. Media persons from various reputed newspapers and channels were present in this session organized to strengthen the media community in Kashmir.
This session was chaired by State President of Indian Journalist Association, Jammu and Kashmir, Manzoor Ahmad Pakhtoon.

Addressing the dialogue session, he said that Kashmiri journalists are facing many serious problems, which affect their freedom, security and livelihood. These problems are related to the complex social -political environment of the region, security challenges and government policies. To solve these issues, it is necessary to promote independent journalism, ensure security and improve communication facilities. He shared his views and objectives for the benefit of Kashmiri journalists through the Indian Journalist Association and said that Indian Journalist Association will become the voice of Kashmiri journalists.

During this interactive session, registered and new members of Indian Journalist Association, Kashmir media persons were present including State General Secretary Kabir Gilani, State Spokesperson Asif Manzoor Daily Jammu Jottings, Shuja Bakal 4tv, Peer Arafat Shree News, Imran Rasool The Revolutionary, Muhammad Hussain Khan Navdeep News, Bayanat The Revolutionary, Sahil Mehraj JK News Observer and Suhaib Ismail Ab Tak JK. All the participants shared the challenges, suggestions and tips faced by the journalists and expressed their faith and appreciation towards Indian Journalist Association.

Prof. Uma Kanjilal Appointed as the First Woman Vice Chancellor of IGNOU
New Delhi | July 25, 2025 — The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) proudly announces the
appointment of Prof. Uma Kanjilal as its Vice Chancellor, marking a historic milestone as she becomes the first
woman to hold this prestigious position in the University's history. She has been serving as the Acting Vice
Chancellor since July 25, 2024.
With over 36 years of distinguished service in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system, Prof. Kanjilal brings
a wealth of academic leadership, digital innovation, and institutional knowledge to the helm of one of the world’s
largest open universities.
Before assuming the role of Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kanjilal served as Pro Vice Chancellor (March 2021 – July
2024). Her longstanding association with IGNOU spans various key leadership roles, including Director, Centre for
Online Education (2019–2021); Director, Inter-University Consortium for Technology Enabled Flexible
Education (2016–2019); Director, Advanced Centre for Informatics and Innovative Learning (2012–
2013); Director, School of Social Sciences (2007–2010); and University Librarian (2004–2006).
A Professor of Library and Information Science since 2003, Prof. Kanjilal is nationally recognized for her expertise
in e-learning, ICT in libraries, digital libraries, and multimedia courseware development. She is currently
the National Coordinator for SWAYAM and SWAYAM PRABHA, flagship digital education initiatives of the Ministry
of Education, Government of India.
Her global contributions include a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1999–2000),
consultancy for the Commonwealth of Learning, and digital education work for UNRWA in Jordan. She has received
multiple accolades including the Manthan Award for e-Education, an Australia-India Council Grant, and
a DANIDA Fellowship.
Prof. Kanjilal has been instrumental in expanding IGNOU’s digital infrastructure and online education offerings. Her
leadership as the Principal Investigator of the National Virtual Library of India Project and her current role
as Coordinator of IGNOU's Project Management Unit under NMEICT Phase-III reflect her deep commitment to
digital empowerment in education.
Her appointment comes at a crucial juncture as IGNOU continues to implement the National Education Policy
(NEP) 2020, contributing toward the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 through inclusive, flexible, and technology-enabled
education.
IGNOU congratulates Prof. Uma Kanjilal and looks forward to her continued leadership in guiding the University into a
