In a rare and heartfelt ceremony, two brothers from Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district married the same woman, reviving an old Hatti community tradition. Pradeep and Kapil Negi of Shillai village tied the knot with Sunita Chauhan from Kunhat, following the polyandry custom known locally as Jodidaran or Draupadi Pratha. Practiced for generations in the Trans-Giri region, this tradition helped prevent land division and offered women support. While now uncommon, the wedding was done openly and with full consent. Pradeep shared, “This was a mutual decision. It’s about trust, care, and shared responsibility.” Kapil added, “Even if I live abroad, we wanted this marriage to reflect unity and support.” Sunita said, “I was never pressured. I chose this tradition willingly and believe in the bond we’ve formed.”
