Army foils infiltration attempt in Machil Sector, Two ‘infiltrators’ killed

October 14, 2025 :The Indian Army said that it foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on late Monday night, killing two militants during an intense exchange of fire.

Official sources told that troops deployed along the forward posts in Machil detected suspicious movement near the LoC under the cover of darkness.

“The soldiers challenged the infiltrators who, instead of surrendering, opened fire. In the retaliatory action, two militants were neutralized,” an official said.

He added that efforts are underway to recover the bodies, but the operation in the area remains active as security personnel continue to comb nearby forested terrain to rule out the presence of more infiltrators.

Former IAS Officer Kannan Gopinathan Joins Congress

New Delhi, Oct 13: Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, known for his outspoken criticism of the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and convert Jammu and Kashmir into a Union Territory, formally joined the Indian National Congress on Monday.

Gopinathan joined the party at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal and Chairman of the Congress Media and Publicity Department Pawan Khera.

Welcoming him to the party, Venugopal said, “We warmly welcome Kannan Gopinathan, a fearless voice of democracy, to the Congress family. As a principled administrator and committed democrat, his joining will strengthen our movement to protect the Constitution, freedom, and inclusive fabric of India.”

Venugopal added that Gopinathan’s decision sends a strong message that Congress continues to be the only political force fighting for justice and a clear ideology. He also took a swipe at the BJP government, saying, “He resigned in 2019, but his resignation has still not been accepted. Bureaucrats who stand for justice are being penalised. Even the Chief Justice of India is not spared from such attacks. It’s time to resist this divisive agenda.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera praised Gopinathan’s courage, saying, “He spoke out when speaking out was almost impossible. He raised his voice against making Jammu and Kashmir a Union Territory and against the CAA. We are happy that he chose the Congress—our doors remain open to all who stand for freedom and justice.”

Explaining his decision, Gopinathan said, “I resigned in 2019 knowing the government was taking the country in the wrong direction. Since then, I’ve travelled across 80–90 districts, meeting people and leaders, and realised that only the Congress can steer India on the right path.”

‘Will not support NC’s campaign for Budgam bypolls’: Aga Ruhullah

October 13, 2025:Citing the incomplete fulfillment of promises and commitment to uphold his principles over political expediency, MP Srinagar and National Conference leader Agha Ruhullah on Monday said that he will not take part in campaigning for the party in the upcoming Budgam Assembly bypolls.

Ruhullah said that while the party will ultimately decide on the candidate, he sees no reason to actively campaign under the current circumstances.

He added that his engagement with voters has always been guided by trust, accountability, and the delivery of commitments rather than party pressure.

Ruhullah, who has represented the Budgam Assembly constituency multiple times and has a long-standing history with the National Conference, expressed disappointment that promises made during the last Assembly tenure have not been implemented.

“If the party wants me to go in front of people, there are a few points I want to see immediately. Only after that will I consider my participation,” he said, adding that his decision is based on principle and not political strategy.

Recalling his previous election campaigns, Ruhullah said his responsibility was always towards the institution he worked for and the people who trusted him with their votes.

Ruhullah questioned the party about follow-up actions on prior commitments, including the manifesto and other promises to constituents. “I asked them, what work did you do on the Assembly? What commitments did you make for yourselves? Until these are addressed, why should I go in front of people?” he said.

On speculation regarding NC fielding outsider on Budgam assembly seat, Ruhullah said that he will exercise his right as a voter independently. “Whoever wants to contest from here, let them contest. I have a vote. I am the owner of my vote. I will make my decision and work with the people,” he said, adding that his commitment is to letting constituents decide their representatives rather than blindly following party directions.

Ruhullah also said that the conditions under which he might reconsider campaigning are concrete action on issues like Cabinet decisions on reservation and fulfillment of commitments made to the constituency.

“If I see serious intention from the party to act on these issues, then I will evaluate my participation. Until then, I cannot involve myself in any campaign,” he added.

He also said that his political principles and ideological commitments have always guided his actions. “I have followed the principles of politics. That is what I want to do. I do not want to break my principles and break my commitments. I promised people that I would support them only if commitments made were honored. I will not leave that promise for anyone,” Ruhullah said.

Speaking on the autonomy of voters in Budgam, Ruhullah said that they are the true owners of their votes. While he may provide advice if asked, he will not dictate or influence voting decisions, he added.

Imran Nabi Dar from south Kashmir is NC’s fourth Rajya Sabha candidate

October 13, 2025 :Imran Nabi Dar has filed nomination as a candidate of Rajya Sabha for National Conference (NC) on Monday as the party filed nomination papers for all four Rajya Sabha seats, completing its roster for the October 24 elections amid a tussle with Congress over seat allocation.

Senior party leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Sajad Kichloo, and Shammi Oberoi had submitted their nominations earlier, while Imran Nabi Dar, the NC’s state spokesperson, filed his papers later in the day, taking the fourth and final NC seat.

Imran Nabi Dar is the son of the late Ghulam Nabi Dar, a former MLA and senior NC leader who was killed in a gr***de attack during a party procession in 2006.

A journalism graduate from Kashmir University, Imran has steadily risen within the NC ranks and is now a key voice for the party in the state.

The move comes amid Congress’s dissatisfaction over seat distribution.

Party leaders had requested one of the first three seats but were offered only the fourth, which they considered less secure, a senior Congress leader said earlier.
