Diesel, LPG Stocks Sufficient, Highway Restoration Work Going On: Div Com Kashmir
Says there is petrol shortage in Valley, but stocks will be refilled within 2 days

Srinagar- Amid public concern over petrol shortages and highway closure, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg on Monday said LPG and diesel stocks are sufficient, while there is shortage of petrol, but it is expected to be refilled within two days.

Anshul Garg said restoration work on the national highway is going on day and night and that authorities are hopeful it will be fully operational within the next two days.

He said that the Mughal Road has been kept open to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the valley.

“Essentials are stocked well. Diesel and LPG are sufficient and there is shortage of petrol at present. But will be refilled within two days,” he said, urging the public to stay calm and avoid rushing to petrol pumps. (KNO)

Fruit Mandis Shut Across Kashmir Valley Over Highway Havoc

Srinagar- Fruit mandis across Kashmir observed a complete shutdown on Monday in protest against the government’s failure to ensure the smooth movement of fruit-laden trucks. Growers warned of a valley-wide strike if the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway is not fully restored within two days.
Emotional scenes unfolded at Asia’s second-largest Fruit Mandi in Sopore, where growers with tearful eyes pleaded for the survival of the industry, reported news agency KNO.
Many orchardists broke down during the protest, lamenting that their year’s hard work was rotting in stranded trucks while the government “watched silently.”
Speaking at the protest, President Fayaz Ahmed Malik accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of failing the people. “If the CM can’t ensure the passage of fruit trucks, he has no right to sit in office. Resign if you can’t do anything,” he thundered, adding that no MLA had spoken up for the growers.
Growers alleged that while trucks carrying iron and other commodities were being allowed to move, fruit-laden vehicles were deliberately held back.
Warning of an escalation, Malik stated that if the highway is not restored within 48 hours, growers will announce a valley-wide strike that could paralyze economic activity across the region.
It is worth mentioning that mandis across the Valley—including Sopore, Handwara, Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag, and others—remained shut as part of a two-day shutdown call on September 14 and 15.
Earlier, the fruit growers’ association reported that hundreds of trucks carrying perishable fruit consignments remain stranded on the highway and have not been allowed to proceed to their destinations, resulting in “massive damages and heavy losses” for growers.

J&K HC Halts Charge-Sheet Move Against MLA Mehraj Malik

Srinagar– The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has restrained the police from filing a charge-sheet against Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, while allowing the investigation in the case to continue.

The case, which involves allegations under Section 356(2) (assault with intent to dishonour), Section 79 (obstructing a public servant), and Section 351(2) (use of force to deter a public servant), came up for hearing before Justice Rajesh Sekhri.

Issuing notice to the respondents, the court directed them to file objections within four weeks. The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 31, 2025.

Earlier, the Doda administration had prepared a dossier on Malik, claiming that the Aam Aadmi Party legislator had allegedly threatened government officials during Operation Sindoor — an initiative aimed at countering attempts to create communal and regional divides.

Authorities lift restrictions, reopen schools in parts of Doda after unrest over AAP MLA Mehraj Malik's detention

Authorities on Sunday decided to ease restrictions on movement of people throughout in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir except two Tehsils of Kahara and Pingal from Monday.

The districts remained tense and under restrictions for over a week following the arrest of sitting MLA of Aam Aadmi Party Mehraj Malik on September 8 under Public Safety Act.

The broadband internet services were restored on Sunday and the schools reopened on Monday as the situation limped back to normalcy. The officials informed that section 163 BNSS restrictions have been withdrawn from the entire district Doda, except in Tehsil Kahara and Tehsil Chilli Pingal, where the restrictions will continue to remain in force.

"Furthermore, all schools across District Doda will reopen tomorrow, 15th September, except for those falling under Zone Bhatyas, which shall remain closed until further orders," read the official statement.

If the situation remains under control lifting of restrictions in all the areas and resumption of mobile internet services will be done in a phased manner following the assessment of the situation.

“We eased the restrictions throughout the day on Sunday. Restrictions have been lifted in most of the areas. We will take further measures after assessing the situation on ground,” Divisional Commissioner of Jammu Ramesh Kumar told ET.

Following the arrest of Malik, under draconian Public Safety Act soon after his harsh critique and abusive language against the District Magistrate of Doda Harvinder Singh, his supporters from across Doda and other parts of J&K took out the protest marches and clashed with the police in Doda district, in which several protestors and eight policemen were injured. The authorities imposed prohibitory orders in Doda under section 163 of BNNS and detained around 80 protestors, besides, imposing restrictions on internet services. The authorities claimed that 18 FIRs have been registered against Malik over the past years and his name figures in 16 daily diary entries. They said that he was allegedly a ‘threat to the peace.’

The political parties across the spectrum in Kashmir came out in support of Malik and demanded his immediate release. The AAP has stated that they will go to the Supreme Court if need arises to push for the release of their only legislator in J&K, who is currently lodged in Kathua jail.

As the situation remained tense in Doda locals also remained indoors over the past week and business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and traffic was off the roads as well. This also impacted the availability of essentials in the district. However the officials claimed that the situation is now limping back to normalcy and all concerns of locals will be addressed.

Earlier, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Shridhar Patil along with Deputy Commissioner, Doda Harvinder Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Kumar Mehta held a meeting with civil society members, including representatives of traders and transporters to ensure the district progresses to routine as soon as possible. They have assured of support and cooperation with the authorities.

Nepali PM Oli resigns amid protests: Why are ‘nepo kids’ angering youth?

Nepali PM resigns amid anticorruption protests that escalated on Monday, killing 19 demonstrators.

Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid surging protests that began as a movement against corruption and inequality but exploded into broader calls for change after 19 youths were shot dead by security forces during clashes on Monday.

Protests continued on Tuesday morning, with agitators torching several buildings seen as associated with Nepal’s elite, even as ministers resigned and pressure built on Oli to follow suit.

However, despite Oli’s resignation, Nepal remains on edge, with protesters seeking sweeping changes to the country’s political landscape. Kathmandu’s international airport cancelled all flights scheduled for Tuesday.

Here’s the latest on the churn in Nepal, and the triggers driving the anger that has fuelled these protests:

What happened during the protests on Monday?
Protests began at 9am (03:15 GMT) on Monday in Kathmandu’s Maitighar neighbourhood. Thousands of young protesters, including high school students in their uniforms, took to the streets.

Dubbed the “Gen Z protest”, it was organised by the nonprofit organisation Hami Nepal, meaning “We are Nepal”. According to the Kathmandu District Administration Office, the NGO had secured approval for it. The protest spread to other cities.

Within hours, some protesters broke barricades set up by the police and entered the parliament premises in New Baneshwor. This resulted in clashes with the police, who opened fire on the protesters. Authorities imposed a curfew in the area until the evening.
