Former Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary Visits Hailstorm-Hit Villages in Marh, Demands Adequate Compensation for Affected Farmers
Over 500 kanals of cauliflower and kadam crops destroyed; paddy crops spread across more than 4,000 kanals also suffer heavy damage
Former Minister and senior BJP leader Sukhnandan Choudhary visited several villages in the Marh area affected by recent rainfall and hailstorms to assess the extensive damage caused to farmers’ crops. During the visit, he inspected agricultural fields in Manyal Brahmana, Rajpura, Chorpur, Jhiri, Shama Chak, Dab Sudan and other affected villages, interacting with farmers and listening to their grievances.
The recent hailstorm has caused extensive damage to standing crops across the region, with vegetable growers bearing a particularly heavy burden. According to preliminary information, cauliflower and kadam crops spread over more than 500 kanals have been destroyed, while paddy crops across more than 4,000 kanals have also suffered significant damage. The crop losses have severely affected farmers’ financial conditions and raised serious concerns about their livelihoods.
During his visit, Choudhary expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by farmers, stating that they work tirelessly to cultivate their land and invest their hard-earned money in seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and other agricultural inputs. He said the destruction of crops due to natural calamities inflicts a major financial setback on farming families who depend on agriculture for their livelihood.
Choudhary said farmers in the Marh area had suffered substantial losses due to the recent rainfall and hailstorms. He emphasised that the administration must act promptly and take concrete steps to provide relief to the affected farming community.
Raising the issue with Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and the concerned authorities, Choudhary demanded adequate compensation for farmers who have suffered crop losses. He urged the administration to take immediate cognisance of the situation and conduct a fair, transparent and comprehensive assessment of the damage so that eligible farmers can receive compensation in accordance with the applicable rules.
He also appealed to the concerned departments to conduct a special survey in all affected villages, including Manyal Brahmana, Rajpura, Chorpur, Jhiri, Shama Chak and Dab Sudan. He stressed that the losses suffered by each farmer must be accurately assessed to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of government assistance.
Highlighting the financial difficulties faced by farming families, Choudhary said that the compensation process should not be delayed unnecessarily. He called upon the administration to complete the crop damage assessment at the earliest and ensure timely financial assistance to affected farmers, enabling them to recover from their losses and resume their agricultural activities.
Describing farmers as the backbone of the rural economy, Choudhary said their welfare and the resolution of their grievances must remain a priority for all concerned departments. He added that farmers affected by natural calamities should not be left to face such hardships alone and must receive appropriate relief and support from the government.
Reiterating his appeal to Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and the concerned administrative authorities, Choudhary urged them to immediately assess the crop losses caused by rainfall and hailstorms in the Marh area and provide adequate compensation to the affected farmers to help them overcome this difficult situation.
