Khichdi ...Khichdi Amavasya (Khech Mavas) is a Kashmiri Pandit winter festival marking a peace pact with ancient aboriginal mountain dwellers, the Yaksha tribe, who’d come down in winter, offering them khichdi (a rice-lentil dish) for protection and prosperity, a ritual symbolizing historical harmony, where a special offering of turmeric-spiced moong dal khichdi is left outside homes for the Yakshas, with a belief in their presence, often linked to Lord Kubera
