Heavy Drainage from PMGSY Road Causes Major Losses to Local Shopkeeper in Chillad Tehsil Arnas
Arnas, Reasi District — June 29, 2025:
A local shopkeeper in the Arnas-Chillad area has suffered significant financial losses due to unchecked drainage water flowing from the PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) road.Mobarak Singh , the owner of a combined Medical and General Store, reported that heavy water runoff caused by recent rains has inundated his shop, damaging medicines, grocery supplies, and essential goods.
According to Singh, the poorly managed drainage system along the newly constructed PMGSY road from Arnas to Chilad is to blame. “There is no proper outlet for water. Every time it rains heavily, the water flows directly into my shop. I've lost lakhs worth of stock, and there’s no compensation or action from the concerned authorities,” he stated.
Local residents echoed Singh's concerns, pointing out that the road construction, though welcome for connectivity, has ignored critical infrastructure like proper water discharge systems. “This is not the first time we are seeing such damage,” said a nearby resident. “Many small business owners and households are suffering.”
Despite repeated appeals to the local administration and PMGSY officials, there has been no visible action taken to mitigate the issue. Mobarak Singh is now urging the district authorities and PMGSY to intervene urgently, assess the. It's also because of the negligence of the Contractor and the concern department.
