Conspiracy to Disturb Jammu's Peace Will Not Be Tolerated: Shiv Sena
PSA Must Be Invoked Against Rioters: Sahni
Jammu, June 2: The Jammu & Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has strongly condemned the stone-pelting incident on security forces and the tense atmosphere created following the administration's action against illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions on forest land in the Sidra area. The party alleged that certain political and anti-social elements have been continuously politicizing the issue and attempting to provoke people, thereby endangering Jammu's peace and communal harmony.
State President Manish Sahni said that after the administration cleared the encroached forest land, some elements deliberately tried to inflame public sentiments and give the issue an unnecessary political colour. As part of this campaign, an attempt was made to take out a march without administrative permission. When security forces intervened to maintain law and order, miscreants resorted to stone-pelting, challenging the authority of the administration and creating unrest. Several police personnel were injured in the violence.
Sahni said that an attack on police and security personnel is not merely an attack on government employees but a direct assault on the rule of law and democratic institutions. While every citizen has the right to express opinions and protest peacefully in a democracy, violence, stone-pelting, and obstruction of official duties cannot be justified under any circumstances.
He further stated that such incidents are particularly alarming as they have occurred just ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra. Jammu serves as the gateway for lakhs of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine, and any attempt to disturb peace and stability at this sensitive time must be viewed with utmost seriousness.
Sahni demanded the immediate identification of all individuals involved in the violence and stone-pelting and called for strict legal action against them. He specifically urged the administration to invoke the Public Safety Act (PSA) and other stringent legal provisions against those responsible for attacking police and security forces, so that no one dares to take the law into their own hands in the future.
He reiterated that any conspiracy to disturb Jammu's peaceful atmosphere and social harmony would not be tolerated and urged the administration to take exemplary action against the culprits. On this occasion Sanjay Bhatt, Raju Kapoor, Aditya Mahajan, Raghubir Singh, Bhagat Singh, Ritik Giswami were present.
