Incessant Rains, Gusty Winds Cripple Normal Life in Srinagar
Srinagar: Persistent rainfall and strong winds disrupted daily life in Srinagar on Wednesday, triggering massive traffic snarls across the city.
Commuters reported bumper-to-bumper traffic from Downtown to city centre areas, with many blaming poor traffic management during peak hours. “People are stuck for a long time in jams,” said Nadeem Ahmad, a local commuter.
Two-wheeler riders, some with children, struggled through the gridlock and downpour, shielding themselves with plastic covers. Potholes and open manholes worsened the situation, raising safety concerns for both drivers and pedestrians.
Vendors across tourist areas like Boulevard shut down operations due to the inclement weather, as life in the summer capital came to a standstill.

Heavy Rains, Winds Wreak Havoc on Jammu’s Power Infrastructure
Jammu: A severe windstorm followed by heavy rains struck Jammu on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage to power infrastructure and plunging several areas into darkness.
The high-velocity winds, which hit around 7:40 PM, uprooted electric poles, trees, tin structures, and billboards, damaging vehicles in various localities. Widespread outages were reported from Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Canal Road, and surrounding areas.
A section of the Civil Secretariat wall near Dogra Hall collapsed, damaging parked vehicles, while a mobile tower toppled in Bagh-e-Bahu. Power Department officials said restoration efforts are ongoing, but the full extent of damage is still being assessed.

Omar Abdullah Distances Himself from Party MLAs' Adjournment Motion on Waqf Act
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has distanced himself from the National Conference legislators' decision to move an adjournment motion on the Waqf Act in the state Assembly. Calling the move “a mistake,” Abdullah said the issue should have been raised through proper parliamentary procedures, as the Act was enacted by the Centre.
“Adjournment motions relate to matters under the state government's purview, not central legislation,” he clarified.
The CM’s comments drew sharp criticism from Opposition parties, who accused him of dodging accountability on a sensitive matter.

India, Pakistan to Hold Flag Meeting in Poonch to Ease LoC Tensions
Indian and Pakistani army officials are set to hold a flag meeting today at Chakan Da Bagh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, aimed at de-escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC).
The meeting, initiated at Pakistan’s request, comes amid rising concerns over recent infiltration attempts, the planting of IEDs, and the unauthorized installation of surveillance equipment within Indian territory.
Indian officials are expected to strongly object to these provocations and emphasize adherence to the 2021 ceasefire agreement to maintain peace in the region.

J&K Budget Session Concludes; House Adjourned Sine Die
The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly's maiden Budget Session concluded on Wednesday, with Speaker A. R. Rather adjourning the House sine die amid chaotic scenes. The session, which began on March 3, ended after three days of disruptions over the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was absent during the adjournment, arriving half an hour later.
As the House reconvened at 1:10 PM, Speaker Rather reiterated his decision to disallow motions for discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act, citing procedural rules. NC MLA Mir Saifullah and BJP members raised objections, leading to further unrest.
In the midst of protests, Speaker Rather attempted to deliver his closing remarks, but the ongoing uproar forced him to adjourn the House sine die.

J&K Assembly Adjourned for 3rd Consecutive Day Amid Waqf Bill DisruptionThe Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, just 14 minutes after the session began, due to a continued uproar over the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.
Today marks the final day of the maiden Budget Session of the J&K Union Territory.

National Conference members Nazir Gurezi and Mubarak Gul called for a discussion on the controversial Waqf Amendment Act, but Speaker A. R. Rather stated that a new resolution on unemployment had been submitted by BJP members.
Amid protests on both sides, Speaker Rather adjourned the session until 1 PM. Outside, BJP members staged a sit-in protest, while NC legislators briefly demonstrated inside the House.
