Zonal Police is there for you’: IGP Sujit Kumar

Says anti-terror operations remain priority, seeks public cooperation during prayers

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNO): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Sujit Kumar on Friday assured people that the Kashmir Zonal Police is “always there” for their safety and security, while saying anti-terror operations remain the force’s top priority.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to Hazratbal in Srinagar, IGP Sujit Kumar as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the police is focused on ensuring smooth and peaceful congregational prayers amid large gatherings on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).

“I congratulate everyone and want to assure the people that the Zonal Police is always there for you,” Kumar said.

He sought public cooperation in maintaining peace and law and order, while acknowledging that security arrangements could sometimes cause inconvenience to commuters.

“Many people are offering prayers today, so we seek your cooperation. We understand movement is difficult for the public,” he said.

On the recent increase in counter-terror operations in Kashmir, he said operations had been the force’s priority in the past and would continue to remain so.

“Our operations were the first priority in the past and they remain the first priority today as well,” he said.

Sujit Kumar, who took charge as IGP Kashmir on Thursday evening, was on his maiden ground visit to Srinagar after assuming office. During the visit, he reviewed security arrangements and coordination between the police and other security agencies at locations witnessing large congregations.—(KNO)...

Baramulla Police Hold Thana Diwas & PCPG Meetings at 30 Locations; Strengthen Police-Public Engagement

As part of its continued efforts to strengthen police-public relations and ensure responsive, community-oriented policing, Baramulla Police conducted Thana Diwas and Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meetings at 30 locations across the district.
The meetings were held at Bulbulabad, Darpora, Cheredari, Kalayban, Khushalpora, DPS Colony, Ganie Hamam, Hamray, Gudwani, Yall, Gund Ibrahim, Nillah, Goom Ahmadpora, Tangpora, Kawahar Bala, Wanigam Bala, Nowgam, Tangwari Bala, Soipora, Gundalwash, Kuthipora, Alapora, Butapathri, Babareshi, Salamabad, Bujhthalan, Gowhallan, Mayan, Dhakra and Chappper.
During the meetings, police officers interacted with local residents, community representatives, elders and youth, providing a platform for open dialogue on public safety, security concerns, prevention of crime, drug abuse, traffic management and other issues affecting the local communities.
Participants were encouraged to share their concerns and suggestions directly with the police. The officers assured the gathering that all genuine issues would be examined promptly and addressed in coordination with the concerned departments wherever required.
The meetings also focused on community participation in maintaining peace and security, encouraging residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with police and promptly report suspicious activities or information related to crime and anti-social elements.
Baramulla Police reiterated that Thana Diwas and PCPG meetings are an important component of community policing, aimed at bringing policing closer to the people, strengthening mutual trust and ensuring a safer and more secure environment across the district.
Baramulla Police remains committed to strengthening police-public partnership through regular engagement, dialogue and responsive policing.

M.K. Sinha Takes Over As ADG CID J&K; Nitish Kumar Posted As ADG Armed

Srinagar, Aug 28 (GNS): Senior IPS officer M.K. Sinha on Friday took over charge as Additional Director General of Police, CID J&K, replacing Nitish Kumar, who has been transferred as ADG Armed J&K.

According to officials, Sinha, a 1996-batch IPS officer, was earlier serving as ADG (Headquarters) PHQ J&K. Soon after assuming charge at CID Headquarters, he chaired a meeting with senior officers of the wing and reviewed the overall functioning of the intelligence set-up.

Nitish Kumar, a 1999-batch IPS officer, was serving as ADG CID and Director State Investigation Agency (SIA) J&K.

Senior officers of CID Headquarters welcomed the new ADG and assured him full cooperation and commitment in discharge of their duties. They also wished outgoing ADG Nitish Kumar a successful tenure in his new assignment as ADG Armed J&K.(GNS)...

PDP Demands Probe into Alleged Night-Time Sale of Excavated Material from Baramulla–Uri Road Project

Calls it “Broad Daylight Loot”: Rafique Rather

Baramulla, August 28:
PDP Baramulla has demanded an immediate probe into the alleged night-time sale of stones, boulders and filling material excavated during the ongoing Baramulla–Uri road widening project, questioning the glaring double standards in the implementation of mining restrictions in the district.

PDP District President for Baramulla Rafique Rather has said that while mining restrictions have severely hit local contractors, builders and common people, bringing several construction and developmental activities to a halt, an outside company executing the road project is allegedly extracting material from mountain slopes and selling it in the local market during night hours at exorbitant rates.

“Is there one law for the people of Baramulla and another for an outside company? If local people cannot extract or purchase construction material because of a government ban, under whose permission is the material excavated from the Baramulla–Uri project allegedly being sold commercially?” Rafique Rather questioned.

He urged the Deputy Commissioner, SSP and District Mining Officer Baramulla to immediately investigate the entire chain of extraction, transportation and alleged sale of the material.

“This is nothing short of broad daylight loot being carried out under the cover of darkness. Authorities must not stop at those allegedly selling the material. They must identify the big fishes and establish whether any officials are facilitating or turning a blind eye to this racket,” he said.

Rather also questioned the silence of the local NC MLA, saying that protecting Baramulla’s environment and preventing the alleged exploitation of its natural resources is the responsibility of every elected representative.

“Baramulla cannot be treated as a place where restrictions are imposed on ordinary people while influential interests are allegedly given a free run. The law must apply equally to everyone, local or outsider,” he said.

He demanded a time-bound and impartial inquiry, including verification of all permissions, excavation records, transportation details and disposal or sale of the material.

“People have a right to know who is extracting this material, who is transporting it, who is selling it and, most importantly, under whose protection it is allegedly happening,” Rather said.

CBI Arrests Two Senior BSNL Engineers in Bhopal Bribery Case

Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer Held While Allegedly Accepting ₹75,000; ₹2 Lakh Each Demanded

BHOPAL, AUGUST 28 (KNC): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two senior officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Bhopal in connection with an alleged bribery case involving demands for illegal gratification from a private firm.

The arrested officials have been identified as a Chief Engineer (Electrical) and a Superintending Engineer (Electrical) posted with BSNL in Bhopal, the CBI said.

According to the agency, a case was registered on August 27, 2026, after allegations surfaced that the two accused officials had demanded an undue advantage of ₹2 lakh each from a Jabalpur-based private firm.

The alleged bribe was reportedly sought in connection with the ex*****on of Operation and Comprehensive Maintenance (OCM) and electrical installation-related works being carried out for BSNL.

The CBI said the officials allegedly demanded the money for processing and clearing the firm’s pending bills related to 14 different works.

Following the complaint, the agency laid a trap and apprehended both officials while they were allegedly accepting ₹75,000 as part payment of the total bribe amount demanded from the firm.

After the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at the official and residential premises linked to the accused officials at multiple locations, including Bhopal, Lucknow and Kanpur.

The agency said the searches and further investigation are underway to establish the complete circumstances of the alleged bribery transaction and identify any other persons who may be connected with the case.

Baramulla, Aug 28: Two hand grenades were recovered from a man during a naka checking operation at Wussan Bangil in Kunzer area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

The checking was being conducted by a joint party comprising personnel from Police Station Kunzer, SOG Kunzer, CRPF 176 Battalion and Army’s 2 Rashtriya Rifles.

During the checking of vehicles and pedestrians, a man allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the security personnel. He was, however, apprehended at the spot.

The man was identified as Shakir Nabi Lone, a resident of Hardu Aboora, Kunzer.

Two hand grenades were allegedly recovered from his possession during a personal search.

Following the recovery, FIR No. 115/2026 has been registered at Police Station Kunzer under relevant provisions of law.

MIRAN SAHIB POLICE ARRESTS HARDCORE CRIMINAL INVOLVED IN OVER 20 FIRs; HEROIN-LIKE SUBSTANCE AND WEAPON RECOVERED.

Jammu, August 28, 2026: Continuing its sustained drive against narcotics and criminal activities, Jammu Police has achieved a significant success with the arrest of a hardcore criminal reportedly involved in more than 20 FIRs, including multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act, along with another accused in connection with an ongoing narcotics case.

On August 26, 2026, a police team of Police Station Miran Sahib arrested Abdul Majeed alias Babal, son of Mohd. Haneef, resident of Dak Banglow, Marallian, Miran Sahib, along with Barinder Singh alias Binny Jatt, son of Avtar Singh, resident of Moga, Punjab, presently residing at Narwal, Jammu.

The arrests were made in connection with FIR No. 138/2026, registered at Police Station Miran Sahib under Sections 8/21/22/29/60 of the NDPS Act and Section 4/25 of the Arms Act.

During the operation, 21 grams of heroin-like substance along with a sharp-edged weapon (toka) was recovered from the possession of Abdul Majeed alias Babal. Further, 20 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of Barinder Singh alias Binny Jatt.

Police said Abdul Majeed alias Babal is a hardcore criminal and has reportedly been involved in more than 20 criminal cases, including multiple cases under the NDPS Act.

The investigation in the case is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the accused and identify other persons associated with the narcotics network. Police are also probing the source of the recovered contraband and the intended recipients.

Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling the drug supply chain and taking stringent action against habitual offenders and persons involved in narcotics-related activities....
