Tamil Nadu to Launch Gold Ring Scheme for Newborns
Chennai, August 23: The Tamil Nadu government has issued work orders to Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers to supply gold rings for newborns under the Thaimaman Gold Ring Scheme, which is scheduled to be launched on September 15, 2026.
The scheme will benefit babies born in government hospitals and aims to encourage deliveries at government medical institutions.
The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation has ordered 1,28,499 one-gram gold rings for beneficiaries from June to September. Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers will supply the rings in a 70:30 ratio.
The government said the tender was issued on July 14 following an order for 4,41,667 one-gram gold rings. Eleven companies participated in the tender process.
The scheme, announced before the April Assembly elections, will cover babies born in government hospitals from June 22, 2026.
