YSS Department Poonch Successfully Conducts District-Level Athletics and Kurash Trials
Both Events Conclude Successfully at Sports Stadium Poonch for All Girls’ Age Groups
Poonch, September 20, 2025 –
The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Poonch, successfully conducted district-level trials in Athletics (Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 Girls) and Kurash (Under-17 and Under-19 Girls) at the Sports Stadium, Poonch, as part of the YSS Activity Calendar 2025–26. These trials are integral to identifying and nurturing young talent for upcoming divisional, UT, and national-level competitions.
The event was organized under the esteemed leadership of Smt. Anuradha Gupta (JKAS), Director General, Youth Services and Sports, J&K UT, and the able guidance of Smt. Vinakshi Koul (JKAS), Joint Director YSS. The trials were meticulously supervised by Mr. Mohd Qasim, District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Poonch, who motivated the young athletes and emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development.
The chief guest, Mr. Shafiq Ahmed (KAS), Officer Poonch, interacted warmly with the participants, encouraging them with the inspiring message: “Say no to drugs, yes to sports.” He lauded the efforts of both the athletes and the department, appreciating the seamless organization and the energy on display.
Mr. Vijay Kumar, Activity Incharge, played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth ex*****on of the trials. A dedicated panel of officials from ZPEO, PEL, PEM, PET, and REK was present to oversee a transparent, merit-based selection process.
The trials witnessed enthusiastic participation from young girls across the district, each showcasing their skills and striving to earn a spot on the district team. The event not only acted as a vital talent-scouting platform but also strengthened the foundation of a growing sports culture in Poonch.
Speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Mr. Mohd Qasim expressed appreciation for the efforts of the participants, coaches, and supporting staff. He commended the consistent performances of Poonch athletes and expressed pride in their increasing contributions to the district’s sporting achievements.
