Dr Nikhil Mahajan Honoured With ‘Doctor of the Year’ Award in Jammu

JAMMU: Renowned cardiologist Dr Nikhil Mahajan was honoured with the “Doctor of the Year Award” at the General Zorawar Singh Award Ceremony 2026, held at Lemon Tree Hotel, Jammu.

The ceremony was organised by the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust to recognise individuals for notable contributions in different fields while commemorating the legacy of General Zorawar Singh.

The event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, Jammu East MLA Yudhvir Sethi, former MP Lal Singh, DIG Jammu, and members of the fifth generation of General Zorawar Singh’s family.

Dr Mahajan was recognised in the Doctor of the Year category for his contribution to healthcare and continued commitment to quality cardiac care.

The organisers said the honour acknowledged his professional dedication, service to patients and contribution to the medical fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir.

The General Zorawar Singh Awards featured several categories, including Doctor of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Fit Icon of the Year, Sports Icon of the Year and Pride Influencer Award.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the legacy of General Zorawar Singh while recognising contemporary achievers for their contributions to society.

Expressing gratitude on receiving the honour, Dr Mahajan thanked the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust and the distinguished guests for the recognition.

He said such honours further strengthen his resolve to serve patients and contribute towards the advancement of cardiac healthcare in Jammu and Kashmir.

DBN Vidya Mandir, Mubarak Mandi Celebrates Janmashtami with Grand Krishna Leela Presentation

Jammu, September 3: DBN Vidya Mandir, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu, celebrated Janmashtami with devotion and enthusiasm to inculcate traditional and spiritual values among students. The programme began with ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by a colourful cultural presentation by students from Nursery to Grade 3.
The highlight was a captivating Krishna Leela, portraying the divine journey of Lord Krishna. Students enacted the Kansa–Devaki and Karagar scenes, depicting Kansa’s tyranny and the birth of Lord Krishna to Devaki and Vasudeva. The iconic scene of Vasudeva carrying newborn Krishna across the Yamuna, with Shesh Naag protecting him from the rain, was beautifully presented.
The students also showcased Krishna’s playful childhood in Vrindavan, culminating in a vibrant Govardhan Parvat dance, depicting Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill to protect the people of Vrindavan. The performances received enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Adv. Ajeet Singh Soni, Regional Mentor, CQECCE (J&K) and National Council Member, ECCE India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Mr. Keshav Chopra, Social Activist, Chairman, Samvedna Society (NGO), Editor-in-Chief, North Truth Daily and proud alumnus of DBN Vidya Mandir, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Valvinder Singh, Assistant Manager, DBN Trust, Headmistress Ms. Sunna Syal and parents were also present.
Both dignitaries appreciated the impressive presentation and the school’s efforts to promote cultural values. Principal Mrs. Priya Singh lauded the teachers’ dedication and congratulated the students, parents and staff for making the celebration memorable.

Keshav Chopra Organizes Anti-Drug Sensitization Programmes

Continuing its efforts to empower youth against substance abuse under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan,” Social Activist & Chairman of Samvedna Society Keshav Chopra today organized anti-drug sensitization programmes at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nawabad, and Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, Jammu.
The programmes were organized with the objective of sensitizing students about the serious consequences of substance abuse and motivating them to adopt a healthy, disciplined, and purposeful lifestyle. Dinesh Menon, a social activist and former ONGC employee who retired in April 2026, was also present on the occasion.

Addressing the students, Keshav Chopra emphasized the vital role of students, parents, and teachers in fostering a substance-free environment, giving the call “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Career.” Chopra urged the youth to channel their potential into education, sports, and skill development, and to step forward as ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir mission to inspire positive change. Keshav also appreciated the commendable work being done by the Police and District Administration and reaffirmed Samvedna Society’s commitment to fully support their ongoing campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Menon highlighted his nationwide awareness walk under the theme “Nasha Mukt Yuva - Viksit Bharat,” stating that the youth are the strongest force against substance abuse and emphasizing that collaboration among social groups, institutions, administration, and society is vital for a drug-free nation.

Kartar Chand Sharma, emphasized the critical role of educational institutions in youth sensitization, urging students to focus on studies and positive habits while assuring continued cooperation with Samvedna Society.

Deepali Handa, highlighted the need for collective action by schools, parents, and administration, encouraging students to shape their future by choosing education, sports, and career over substance abuse.
The programmes witnessed active participation of students and faculty members, concluding with a collective resolve to contribute towards building a Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir.

*Modi Government Will Never Compromise With India’s Sovereignty: BJP*

*India’s rejection of illegal Indus Waters Treaty award is a firm assertion of national interest*

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir today welcomed the Government of India’s firm rejection of the illegal award passed by the so-called Court of Arbitration at Hague concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, describing the decision as a clear and resolute assertion of India’s sovereignty and national interest.

In a press release issued today Parimoksh Seth Spokesperson BJP J&K said that the Modi Government has once again demonstrated that India’s sovereignty, security and national interests will never be compromised under any circumstances. The Government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that the so-called Court of Arbitration was illegally constituted and it has no jurisdiction to pronounce upon India’s sovereign decisions taken by India in its national interests.

The Modi Government has shown that New India will not allow any foreign forum or illegally constituted body to dictate terms and conditions on matters concerning India’s sovereign rights. The national interest and the security of the country will always remain paramount for Modi Government said Adv. Parimoksh Seth

BJP J&K strongly supports the Government’s position that the proceedings and pronouncements of the illegally constituted arbitration body have no bearing on India’s sovereign decisions. The Government has also reiterated that its decision to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance remains in force till Pakistan Credibly and irrevocably abjures it's support for cross border terrorism.

Seth further said that the Indus waters are intrinsically linked with the rights, development and security interests of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and nation as a whole. India cannot permit its sovereign rights over its natural resources and development projects to be subjected to an illegitimate external process.

The message is loud and clear: India will decide what is in India’s national interest. No arbitrary award passed by illegally constituted forum can override the sovereignty of the India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has consistently placed national security, territorial integrity and national interest above everything else Adv. Parimoksh Seth said.

BJP J&K also condemned attempts to use illegally constituted international forums on Indus Water Treaty issue and appreciated the Government of India for standing firm and protecting the country’s legitimate interests.

BJP J&K reiterates its complete support to the Modi Government’s uncompromising stand on India’s sovereignty, national security and rightful interests over its water resources.
