Meagre Compensation for Hailstorm-Hit Villages an Insult to Farmers
Shopian, July 14: The recent announcement of a mere ₹1000 as compensation per family for the hailstorm-affected villages in areas like Nagbal and surrounding areas has caused deep disappointment among the local farming community. This meagre amount is grossly inadequate and fails to reflect the scale of damage suffered by orchardists and farmers.
Despite the visit of the Hon’ble Horticulture Minister Javid Dar the affected areas, the compensation declared is not only insufficient but also an insult to the hard work and losses of our farmers, who are already facing difficult times due to unpredictable weather and falling crop prices.
Former MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir urge the government to immediately revisit and reassess the ground situation. A proper survey must be conducted to evaluate the actual loss and ensure fair, just, and timely compensation to every affected family.
Farmers are the backbone of our economy. Their pain cannot be addressed with symbolic gestures.
