Jammu and Kashmir Police Foster Community Partnership at Thana Diwas Meeting in City North Jammu

Jammu, August 30, 2025 – In a significant step towards strengthening community policing and fostering mutual trust, a Thana Diwas meeting was held today at Police Station City under the jurisdiction of City North Jammu. The event brought together senior police officials and prominent citizens to discuss local security issues and collaborative solutions.
The meeting was presided over by Mr. Vivek Shekhar, Superintendent of Police (SP), City North Jammu, and Mr. Vikram Singh, JKPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), City North Jammu. The proceedings were attended by the Station House Officer (SHO) Shakti Devi and other Investigating Officers (ICs) from key areas, including SI Aaqib Lateef (Residency), SI GC Thappa (Hari Market), and SI Shabir Ahmed Malik (SMGS Hospital).
The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from a wide cross-section of community leaders. Notable attendees included Mr. Rajesh Dewan, President of Lower Hari Market; Mr. Ashish Mahajan, President of Kanak Mandi Association; Mr. Harbinder Singh, President of Residency Road Association; Mr. Surinder Gupta, President of Pahari Mohalla; Mr. Karunesh Gupta, Director of the Cooperative Bank; Mr. Surinder Mahajan, Ex-President of Raghunath Bazar Association; and Mr. Gulshan Mahajan, Ex-Corporator. They were joined by over 25 other esteemed citizens from the area.
Addressing the gathering, SP City North Jammu, Mr. Vivek Shekhar, emphasized the Jammu and Kashmir Police's unwavering commitment to public safety and security. "Thana Diwas is not merely a meeting but a cornerstone of our community policing strategy. It provides a vital platform for transparent dialogue, allowing us to address your concerns directly and work together to enhance the safety and quality of life in our community. Your cooperation is essential for effective policing," stated Mr. Shekhar.
SDPO City North Jammu, Mr. Vikram Singh, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of such direct interactions. "This open forum allows us to bridge gaps, understand ground-level challenges from the citizens' perspective, and tailor our strategies accordingly. We are here to serve you, and your feedback is invaluable," he added.
The interactive session saw citizens actively raising issues pertaining to traffic management, night patrolling, drug abuse prevention, and overall law and order. The police officials provided assurances and outlined actionable plans, including enhanced visibility, targeted anti-drug drives, and the establishment of better communication channels between the public and beat officers.
The meeting concluded on a positive note with a mutual agreement to hold such interactions regularly, reinforcing the shared responsibility of maintaining peace and order in the city.
