Mendhar Date: 26 July 2025 – In a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable courage and supreme sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War, Ramkund Gunners, under the aegis of the Ace of Spades Gunners, commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2025, with grandeur, patriotic spirit, and community participation at Mendhar, District Poonch.
The event began with a formal welcome and the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by a stirring address from the Unit Officer. In his motivational speech, the officer highlighted the historic importance of Operation Vijay, underlining the legacy of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect the integrity and sovereignty of India. He urged the younger generation to remember and honour these valiant warriors, not just on this day, but throughout their lives.
A special and emotional moment of the programme was the address by a Kargil War Veteran, who captivated the audience by recounting his firsthand experience from the warfront. With teary eyes and a voice filled with pride, the veteran spoke of the harsh realities faced during the conflict, the unwavering determination of soldiers, and the emotional burden of losing comrades-in-arms. His words struck a deep chord with all present—students, teachers, local residents, and ex-servicemen alike—and brought alive the spirit of Kargil in a deeply personal and moving manner.
The cultural segment of the programme was brought to life by the students of Eklavya Model Residential School, Behra, who presented a series of vibrant and patriotic performances. Their soulful songs and energetic dances celebrated the themes of sacrifice, national unity, and pride in the Indian Armed Forces. Each act, delivered with passion and precision, visibly moved the audience, drawing rounds of applause and heartfelt cheers.
The event was attended by a large gathering, including school children, teaching and non-teaching staff, members of the local civil administration, prominent citizens, ex-servicemen, and enthusiastic local residents. Their presence made the occasion not only a military commemoration but also a meaningful community engagement, strengthening the civil-military bond that is the cornerstone of peace and harmony in the border district of Poonch.
The Ramkund Gunners took this opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to nation-building, peace, and motivating youth to uphold the values of courage, service, and integrity. Through such events, the Army continues to inspire generations and foster patriotism, especially in border areas where the armed forces and the civilian population share a unique and respectful relationship.
As the ceremony concluded with the playing of the national anthem and floral tributes to the martyrs, the message was clear—India will never forget its heroes. The memories of Kargil will continue to live on through such powerful commemorations, reminding every Indian of the price paid for the country’s freedom and security.
The success of the event not only honoured the martyrs but also served as a clarion call for unity, national pride, and dedication to duty. The Ramkund Gunners once again demonstrated that the spirit of the Indian Army is not just alive in times of war but remains vibrant and ever-present in the hearts of the people it serves.
