IGP JAMMU VISITS KISHTWAR, REVIEWS SECURITY AND OPERATIONAL PREPAREDNESS

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Shri Tejinder Singh, IPS, accompanied by DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Ms. Sargun Shukla, IPS, visited District Kishtwar and chaired a security review meeting to assess the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness.

During the meeting, SSP Kishtwar Shri Sunny Gupta, IPS, briefed the IGP on the security scenario, counter-terrorism preparedness, inter-range coordination, crime prevention measures, anti-narcotics operations and security arrangements for vital installations.

IGP Jammu stressed the need for proactive policing, heightened alertness and close coordination among all agencies to address security challenges effectively.

The meeting was attended by senior police officers, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Station House Officers (SHOs) and Police Post In-charges.

The visit focused on reviewing security arrangements and strengthening operational coordination to ensure effective policing in the district.

Doda, October 16, 2026:

Ahead of the upcoming festive season, the Food Safety Department, in collaboration with the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, Municipal Council and Legal Metrology Department, conducted a market-checking drive in Doda on Friday to ensure food safety and compliance with prescribed standards.

The inspection was led by District Food Safety Officer Farooq Ahmed and FCS&CA TSO Reshi Kumar. During the drive, officials inspected shops, restaurants and other food establishments, with special focus on high-risk food items, including milk and dairy products, chicken, meat, bakery products and fast food.

During the inspection, the team issued five compoundable challans and served two improvement notices for violations detected during the drive.

Officials also checked the use of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial establishments and warned shopkeepers and restaurant owners against using domestic cylinders for commercial purposes.

The inspection team directed food business operators to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness, ensure the quality and safety of food products, and strictly adhere to prescribed food safety regulations. Shopkeepers and restaurant owners were cautioned against practices that could compromise public health.

Officials stated that the drive aimed to protect consumers and ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food during the festive season. They urged traders and food business operators to comply with prescribed guidelines and cooperate with the authorities in safeguarding public health.

Doda Police Foils Bovine Smuggling Bid in Karara; 17 Animals Rescued, One Accused Arrested, Vehicle Seized

Doda, October 16: Doda Police foiled an alleged bovine smuggling attempt at Naka Karara under Police Station Thathri, rescuing 17 bovine animals, including 12 oxen and five cows. One accused has been arrested, while the driver managed to escape.

During routine night checking, police signalled a mini truck bearing registration number JK17A-1101 to stop. However, the driver allegedly fled after noticing the police naka.

Upon checking the vehicle, police found 17 animals tightly tied with ropes under alleged cruel and inhumane conditions. Some animals had sustained injuries, and adequate arrangements for food and drinking water were reportedly missing.

Police arrested one accused, identified as Shehzad Hussain, son of Mohd Ishaq, a resident of Gural Dhar (B), Doda. The absconding driver has been identified as Mohd Umer, son of Abdul Majeed, a resident of Bharath, Doda. Efforts are underway to apprehend him.

In this connection, FIR No. 79/2026 has been registered at Police Station Thathri under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Further investigation is underway.

Doda Police reiterated its commitment to curbing bovine smuggling and preventing cruelty to animals.
