SSP Jammu Reviews Crime and Security Preparedness at DPL Jammu

THE TYPEWRITER || JAMMU, NOVEMBER 6

The Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Joginder Singh (JKPS), convened a comprehensive crime and security review meeting at District Police Lines Jammu. The meeting was attended by Zonal SSPs, SP Operations Jammu, all SDPOs, DySP DAR, Senior PO DPO Jammu, Incharge FSL Unit DPL Jammu, and all SHOs of Jammu district.

The session focused on assessing the overall crime scenario and strengthening security measures to maintain peace and stability across the district. Detailed discussions were held on improving the quality of investigations, ensuring timely disposal of cases, verification processes, property-related and NDPS cases, inquest proceedings, as well as tracking history-sheeters, absconders, and missing persons.

Special attention was given to the timely completion of investigations under both old and new criminal laws. The SSP directed officers to adhere to the stipulated timelines of 60 and 90 days for case disposal, ensuring justice delivery without delay.

Progress on initiatives like CCTNS, e-Sakshya, SID’s, and e-Summons was reviewed, with the SSP emphasizing the need for capacity building and effective use of technology in policing. He instructed officers to ensure mandatory utilization of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) services as provided under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), for strengthening evidence collection in investigations.

During the meeting, the SSP underscored the importance of providing efficient and citizen-friendly policing while maintaining law and order. He advised officers to act firmly against unlawful networks and ensure strict implementation of the zero-tolerance policy against drug-related and organized crimes.

The SSP also reviewed the implementation of citizen-centric measures under the new criminal laws, including registration of Zero-FIRs and e-FIRs, and called for wider use of e-Sakshya and MedLEaPR systems for transparency and efficiency.

He directed officers to prioritize the disposal of pending investigations and ensure strong surveillance over released offenders and organized criminal elements. Stressing on professionalism and accountability, he urged officers to maintain discipline, integrity, and quick responsiveness while interacting with the public.

Joginder Singh appreciated the efforts of Jammu Police for their dedication and commitment. He called for close coordination with other security forces, effective area domination, and proper verification of tenants and other residents, ensuring the process remains smooth and citizen-friendly.

The SSP concluded by reiterating that the focus of Jammu Police remains on quality investigation, community trust, and maintaining peace and security across the district.

UFBU Rejects Remarks on Bank Privatization, Reaffirms Support for Public Sector Banking

THE TYPEWRITER || NEW DELHI, Nov 5

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella body representing nine major unions of officers and employees across banks, has strongly objected to the comments made by the Union Finance Minister during a lecture at the Delhi School of Economics on November 4, 2025.
In a statement, the UFBU expressed serious concern over what it described as an β€œimplied endorsement” of bank privatization in the Finance Minister’s response to a student’s query about the potential impact of privatization on access to banking services. The forum said that projecting privatization as a positive reform overlooks the vital role of public sector banks (PSBs) in promoting financial inclusion, supporting weaker sections, and ensuring stability in the economy.
The UFBU emphasized that the nationalization of banks in 1969 fundamentally transformed India’s financial landscape by extending credit and banking facilities to farmers, small businesses, women, and rural citizens. It noted that public sector banks spearheaded programs such as priority sector lending, agricultural loans, self-help group financing, student loans, and welfare-linked schemes that private banks had shown little interest in before.

The forum stated that PSBs have consistently stood with the nation in times of crisis β€” from economic slowdowns to the COVID-19 pandemic β€” ensuring uninterrupted services to millions of customers. It warned that privatization could reverse these gains by restricting access to profitable areas, closing rural branches, and reducing employment security.

Citing past experiences, the UFBU pointed out that several private banks had faced collapse or governance failures in recent decades, and that public sector banks were instrumental in safeguarding depositors and stabilizing the financial system during those episodes.

The statement further argued that PSBs remain accountable to Parliament and the people, while private banks are answerable primarily to shareholders. It attributed the non-performing asset (NPA) problem to large corporate defaults rather than to public ownership, adding that it is unfair to blame the public banking model for issues arising from corporate lending practices.
The UFBU also drew attention to international trends, noting that many countries reinforced public control over banking systems following the 2008 global financial crisis. It said India should learn from such examples instead of pursuing privatization.

Highlighting that the success of initiatives like Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer schemes, and rural financial literacy efforts has been made possible largely through public sector banks, the UFBU maintained that no country has achieved universal banking through privatized systems.
The forum clarified that professionalization and modernization of banks can be achieved through capital infusion, improved governance, and technological advancementβ€”without resorting to privatization.

Reaffirming its stand, the UFBU said privatization could undermine social objectives, threaten financial inclusion, and jeopardize job security while benefiting corporate interests. It called on the Government of India to provide a categorical assurance that no public sector bank will be privatized and to strengthen PSBs through transparent reforms and modernization.
The statement concluded by reiterating UFBU’s commitment to protect public sector banks as institutions that serve the people and uphold national interest. β€œPublic sector banks are national assets,” it said, adding that the forum will continue its efforts to ensure that these institutions remain in public hands.

Rashtriya Parshuram Parishad Urges SMVDSB to Prioritise Traditional Spiritual Initiatives

THE TYPEWRITER || JAMMU, NOVEMBER 05

The Rashtriya Parshuram Parishad, in a meeting held today, appealed to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board to ensure that offerings made by devotees are utilised primarily for traditional spiritual and cultural initiatives.

During the meeting, members expressed the view that donations collected at the holy shrine are contributions of faith and should be directed towards projects that promote and preserve ancient traditions, learning systems, and welfare support inspired by spiritual values.

The Parishad suggested that funds be channelled towards establishing Gurukuls, supporting research in Ayurveda, publishing spiritual literature, and expanding community services such as free food facilities for the underprivileged and specially-abled individuals. The body also proposed the creation of institutions similar to Banaras Hindu University, with a focus on Sanskrit and traditional knowledge systems.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives emphasised that the contributions received at the shrine reflect the devotion of millions and should remain focused on spiritual and cultural upliftment. They called for wider consultation with the community to ensure transparency and alignment with faith-based values.

The Parishad further urged authorities to maintain the sacred intent behind donations and to undertake initiatives that honour the sentiments of devotees while promoting traditional education and heritage.

β€œDevotees contribute with reverence, and their trust must be upheld,” members said, while expressing hope that the Shrine Board would reflect upon the suggestions and take an inclusive approach in future planning.
