PRESS RELEASE
Jammu | 23 July 2026
A peaceful protest was held today at the District Court Complex, Janipur, Jammu, where a large number of advocates of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court participated to express their solidarity with the students and members of the public who were allegedly subjected to a lathi charge during their protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
The participating advocates strongly condemned the alleged use of force against students, especially girl students, and other peaceful protesters. They urged the Government of India to address the concerns of the students through meaningful dialogue rather than the use of force.
The advocates emphasized that the right to hold a peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right guaranteed under the Constitution of India. They stated that every citizen has the right to peacefully express grievances, and such demonstrations should be dealt with in accordance with the rule of law and constitutional principles.
The advocates also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding that accountability should be ensured in view of the ongoing concerns relating to the NEET examination issue.
Further, the protesters called upon the Government to engage with the students at the discussion table and resolve the issues concerning the NEET examination at the earliest, in the interest of safeguarding the future of thousands of students.
The gathering also demanded an independent, fair, and impartial inquiry into the alleged lathi charge at Jantar Mantar and urged that strict legal action be taken against anyone found responsible, in accordance with law.
The advocates reiterated that democratic values, the rule of law, the constitutional right to peaceful protest, and the protection of students' rights must be respected at all times.
