Terrorists Attack in Kathua Village Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
Jammu, June 11: In a tragic continuation of violence, a terrorist attack in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in one person killed and two others injured, just two days after nine people were killed in a similar attack in the Raesi district. The incident took place in Saida village, near the International Border.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who represents Udhampur in Parliament, posted updates on X, stating, "I am in continuous online contact with DC Sh Rakesh Minhas in the wake of a terrorist attack on a house in village Saida in Hiranagar sector close to the International Border. I am also in touch with SSP Kathua Sh Anayat Ali Choudhary who is on the spot."
He further added, "The owner of the house that was attacked is also in touch on mobile phone. Joint police & para military operation is going on. One terrorist neutralised so far. I and my office are in constant touch and keeping a close watch on the development."
Following the attack, security forces launched a joint operation, resulting in the death of one terrorist. This swift response aimed to prevent further escalation and ensure the safety of residents in the area.
This incident marks the second terrorist attack in Jammu within three days. On Sunday, a bus carrying pilgrims to the Shiv Khori cave temple was attacked, leading to nine fatalities and 33 injuries. The bus plunged into a gorge after terrorists opened fire. Security officials suspect the attack was orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Hamza.
These attacks have raised serious concerns among security forces and the establishment, as they occurred in areas previously considered free of terrorism. Intelligence reports had indicated that Jammu was becoming a target for terrorist activities, heightening the alertness and response measures of security agencies.

Big Relief for Jammuites as JPDCL Withdraws Power Curtailment Schedule

Jammu, May 29: In a significant development, the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has announced the immediate withdrawal of the power curtailment schedule, ensuring round-the-clock electricity supply in smart metered areas.

The announcement was made by JPDCL’s Managing Director, Vikas Kundal, through a public notice. Kundal highlighted recent improvements in power infrastructure, including the addition of capacity and repairs to critical transformers at the Samba and Miran Sahib grid stations, as the primary reasons for this decision. Specifically, a 2x50MVA, 132/66KV transformer at Grid Station Samba and a 10MVA, 33/11KV transformer at Miran Sahib have been upgraded.

“JPDCL will provide 24x7 power supply in smart metered areas and up to 20 hours of power supply in other areas,” stated the notice. However, it also cautioned that distressed curtailments might be necessary to protect critical infrastructure amid soaring electricity demand due to high temperatures and a severe heatwave. The public has been urged to use electricity prudently and ensure timely payment of dues.

During his visit to the State Load Dispatch Corporation office, Kundal reviewed the power availability for the Jammu region. He announced that the purchase of an additional 200 MW of power would facilitate smooth, uninterrupted supply to smart metered areas and reduce curtailment hours in rural areas. Accompanying Kundal were Chief Engineer Distribution Manhar Gupta, Chief Engineer System and Operations Rajan Gupta, Executive Engineer IT&C Anil Verma, and Executive Engineer, ED-II Ashok Chibber, among others.

Kundal issued immediate directives to plan maintenance and repair works to avoid inconvenience to the public, specifically prohibiting long-hour outages even in rural areas during peak summer. He also mandated no shutdowns during this critical period.

The visit also brought attention to the operational inclusion of a 160 MVA, 220/132 KV Auto Transformer at the Gladni grid by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL). This transformer, now running in parallel with a 400 MVA Auto Transformer bank, is expected to alleviate infrastructure challenges and reduce forced curtailments caused by transformer overheating.

Furthermore, Kundal emphasized cracking down on illegal electricity connections to protect honest consumers. He reviewed the SCADA system at the Gladni Grid, praising the technological advancements that enable efficient monitoring and control of the power distribution system.

This move is seen as a substantial relief for Jammuites, promising more reliable power amid the region's challenging summer conditions.

Time comes to everyone, just keep patience: -
Year 2004. A young wicketkeeper named Dinesh Kartik made his debut for the Indian cricket team. His cricket career was taking off, and in 2007, he married his childhood friend Nikita Vanjara.
Dinesh and Nikita were very happy in their married life. Dinesh was also captaining the Tamil Nadu team in the Ranji Trophy. His close friend from the Tamil Nadu team, who later became part of the Indian team, was Murali Vijay.
One day, Nikita met Murali Vijay, Dinesh Kartik's teammate. Nikita was attracted to Murali Vijay. Innocent Dinesh Kartik didn't realize this. Nikita and Murali's closeness grew, and soon they started an affair. They began meeting openly. Besides Dinesh Kartik, the entire Tamil Nadu team knew that Murali Vijay was having an affair with Dinesh's wife, Nikita.
Then came the year 2012. Nikita became pregnant. But she shocked everyone by declaring that the child was Murali Vijay's. Dinesh Kartik was shattered. He divorced Nikita. The very next day of the divorce, Nikita married Murali Vijay. And just 3 months later, she gave birth to their child.
Dinesh Kartik fell into depression. He started having mental health issues. He couldn't easily forget the betrayal of his wife and friend Murali. He turned to alcohol, drinking from morning till night. He became like a recluse. He was ousted from the Indian team. He was also failing in the Ranji Trophy.
He was stripped of the captaincy of the Tamil Nadu team. And Murali Vijay was made the new captain. The phase of failure didn't stop there; he wasn't even played in the IPL. He stopped going to the gym. In the end, Dinesh became so hopeless that he started talking about su***de.
Then one day, his trainer from the gym came to his house. He found Dinesh Kartik in a bad condition. He took Dinesh straight to the gym. Dinesh refused, but his trainer didn't listen to him.
In that same gym, the Indian squash champion Dipika Pallikal used to come. When she saw Dinesh Kartik's condition, she also started counseling him along with the trainer.
The hard work of the trainer and Dipika started to show results. Dinesh Kartik was on the path of improvement. Meanwhile, Murali Vijay's game was continuously declining. On the other hand, Murali Vijay was ousted from the Indian team. Seeing his poor form later, even Chennai Super Kings showed him the way out of the IPL.
On the other hand, with the support of Dipika Pallikal, Dinesh Kartik started practicing vigorously on the net. It started to have an effect, and Dinesh Kartik started scoring big in domestic cricket. Soon, he was also selected in the IPL and became the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He had become very close to Dipika Pallikal. He married Dipika.
According to his age, Dinesh had become old in cricket. Rishabh Pant had already arrived in the Indian cricket team. Kartik realized that his career was almost over. He decided to retire from cricket. On the other hand, his wife Dipika Pallikal became pregnant and gave birth to twins. Dipika's squash career also came to a halt.
Dipika and Dinesh Kartik wanted a bungalow in the posh area of Chennai, Poies Garden. In 2021, an offer came to buy a mansion in the same area of Chennai. Dinesh decided to buy it. Everyone was surprised that when both Dipika and Dinesh had almost retired from the world of sports, how would they fulfill such an expensive deal?
Then Dinesh got information that Mahendra Singh Dhoni from Chennai Super Kings wanted to see him back in the team as a wicketkeeper. The auction for the 2022 IPL began. But this time, instead of Chennai, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him. Dinesh's wife Dipika also started playing, and just 6 months after the birth of their twins, she won the title of women's doubles with Joshna Chinappa at the World Championship in Glasgow.
The success story of Dinesh Kartik should be known to everyone. Falling and rising again is what Kartik's life tells. Always keep patience. Keep fighting against the odds. You will definitely reach your destination.

My aim is to win medal in Olympics: Manika Batra

Bangkok (Thailand): Manika Batra's bronze medal at the ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup tournament on Saturday have raised expectations for her winning a medal at the Olympics which is going to take place in Paris in 2024. The star Indian paddler is not taking too much pressure and wants to keep her focus.
"I think the Olympics is not too far away it will come soon and of course, my aim is to win a medal over there but like I always say that I will focus on short-term goals but my main focus is to win a medal in Olympics and beat top players over there so it is important to keep on focusing on my upcoming tournaments. So, I will just keep on going step by step and let's see what happens there. I will always give my best for my country and winning and losing are a part of the game. In the Commonwealth Games, it did come but this tournament meant really something to me. I will just keep on going like this and performing my best," said Manika Batra while speaking to ANI.
Manika beating some top Asian paddlers like world no. 7 Chen Xingtong of China in the opening round followed by beating world no. 6 defeating Hina Hayata of Japan has made her one of the favourites to win a medal at the Asian Games which will be played in Hangzhou.
"I think I will keep working hard but I will just focus on the upcoming back-to-back tournaments. I have to start training immediately after returning. I will just focus on that but Asian Games is a big tournament so there also I will give my best like I have been doing. I will keep on focusing on my practice and put the hard work that I have been putting in my training. I will just keep going on," said Manika.
The 27-year-old Manika has a lot to achieve in the coming years and the star Indian table tennis player is looking forward to giving her best to win medals in major sporting events like the Olympics and Asian Games.
"I will just give my best and try to win a medal over there but I don't want to pressure myself like this but yes I will just give my 100 percent. Of course, a player just does not go there to play. It is their hard work which people don't know. When I go there I will give my best for my country and for myself and those who are supporting me," said Manika Batra.
Manika Batra's historic feat has increased the expectations of Indian fans and indeed this win will boost her morale and confidence for the upcoming Asian Games scheduled in China next year.

Lukaku out of first two World Cup games: Belgium source
Doha, Nov 20 (PTI): Romelu Lukaku will not play for Belgium at the World Cup until at least their final Group F match against Croatia, a team source told AFP on Sunday.
The forward did not take part in the Red Devils' first proper training session since they arrived in Qatar on Friday as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Lukaku is Belgium's all-time top scorer with 68 goals in 102 appearances and was called up to their World Cup squad despite coach Roberto Martinez admitting he was not fully fit.
"It would be better for us if he was there for the first game (against Canada on Wednesday), but I cannot tell you when he will be back," Atletico Madrid midfielder Axel Witsel told reporters.
"The most important thing is how he feels. I was in his place in the last European Championship when I came back from an injury and I'm sure we'll have Romelu back very soon."
Lukaku has endured a difficult past 18 months, moving back to Inter Milan on loan after a dismal season with Chelsea.
However, the 29-year-old has played just twice for Inter since August after first picking up the injury in a 3-1 defeat at Lazio.
He returned to action in style last month, scoring in a 4-0 win against Viktoria Plzen that ensured Inter's passage to the last 16 of the Champions League but he then injured his hamstring again a few days later.
Martinez has to decide who will replace Lukaku up front for the clash with Canada. Fenerbahce forward Michy Batshuayi started in Belgium's one warm-up match before the tournament, a 2-1 defeat to Egypt on Friday.
Batshuayi was replaced by Lens forward Lois Openda, who pulled a goal back in the 76th minute of the clash in Kuwait City.
Belgium also take on Morocco before meeting 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia at the start of next month as they try to improve on their run to the semi-finals four years ago.
Martinez's team have long been dubbed the country's "Golden Generation" but with several among the Spaniard's core group either in or nearing their 30s Qatar could be their last chance to be crowned world champions.
"For a group of players in the team this will be the last one, that's why we really want to give everything we have," said Witsel, 33.
"We have more experience (than in 2018) but time will tell in this competition.
"We went on a extraordinary run in 2018 as we were individually and collectively on top form, and we want to reproduce that here."

FIFA World Cup: Germany ready to end long-term striker conundrum
Doha: Germany's eight-year experimentation in attack looks to be coming to an end at the World Cup in Qatar with coach Hansi Flick having opted to include natural centre forwards in his squad.
Since the retirement of all-time leading World Cup scorer Miroslav Klose following their 2014 World Cup victory in Brazil, the Germans have tried a variety of attacking systems mainly with wingers deployed as false nines but with little success.
The country that has lifted the World Cup four times has been served very well by its centre forwards in the past decades with Ottmar Walter helping them lift the 1954 title.
It was arguably the most iconic nine -- the late Gerd Mueller -- who led the Germans to their second title in 1974 before Juergen Klinsmann took over the scoring for the their 1990 victory in Italy.
Twenty four years later it was another target man, Klose, who scored the goals in their victory in Brazil and became the top World Cup scorer of all time with 16.
Since then, however, Germany, playing without a standard centre forward, suffered a shock first-round exit at the 2018 World Cup, were relegated in the Nations League that year and crashed out in the round of 16 at last year's European Championship.
Flick, who took over from Joachim Loew last year, has now decided to go a different route in Qatar, having included two natural centre forwards in his squad.
Werder Bremen's Niclas Fuellkrug made his Germany debut at the age of 29 this week, scoring the winner in their warmup match against Oman on Wednesday after coming on as a substitute.
His sensational 10-goal run in the Bundesliga made him a necessary choice with Flick praising his qualities which he said would enrich his team.
Youssoufa Moukoko, the youngest player at this World Cup at 18, is a striker from a different generation than Fuellkrug.
He does not have the height or power in the air that Fuellkrug possess but every time the Borussia Dortmund striker is in the opponents' box alarm bells are ringing.
A lighting-quick centre forward with skills and football intelligence to match, Moukoko has scored six times and delivered three assists in the Bundesliga this season.
While he is unlikely to start, the teenager will no doubt be deployed, especially following injuries to centre forward Lukas Nmecha and forward Timo Werner who did not travel to Qatar.
Germany kick off their World Cup campaign against Japan on Wednesday before taking on 2010 world champions Spain and Costa Rica in Group E.

Suryakumar dazzles with ton, helps India beat NZ
Mount Maunganui (NZ), Nov 20 (UNI) Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten 111 and Deepak Hooda's four-fer sealed the second T20I match for India against New Zealand here at Bay Oval on Sunday.
Batting first India posted a huge 191/6 which turned out to be a daunting task for the hosts to get over the line as only four of their batsmen could reach double figures with their Captain Kane Williamson top scoring with 61 off 52 balls.
New Zealand were bowled out for 126 in 18.5 overs, losing to India by 65 runs.
India's bowlers kept constant pressure with Hooda reeling off with four wickets, while the batsmen were under pressure chasing down the big target.
Right-arm wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the standout bowler for India who claimed two wickets and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Siraj set the tone early on with the new ball.
It did seem like the New Zealand batsmen found it difficult to hit big shots and that's what makes SKY's century all the more special.
After Rishabh Pant (6) and Ishan Kishan (36 off 31) struggled and Shreyas Iyer (13 off 9) disturbed the timbers with his foot, SKY displayed his out-of-the-box batting skills.
All those maverick shots of his were thoroughly enjoyed and reveled by the spectators at the stadium. He exuded grandeur coupled with lunacy as he leaves not a single corner of the ground unpicked.
Yadav also did not spare the usually impressive Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi (1/35), as he feasted on them in death overs while they tried to fix him with slower stuff.
He brought up his second century of his T20 career in the penultimate over of India's innings.
Yadav remained unbeaten on 111 from 51 balls, an innings consisting of 11 boundaries and 7 mighty sixes. His first century came against England earlier this year.
Yadav has amassed 1151 runs in T20Is in 2022, the most among all batsmen, at an astonishing average and strike rate of 47.95 and 188.37 respectively.
He was also one of India's best batsmen during the T20 World Cup in Australia recently, where he scored 239 runs at an outstanding average of 59.75 and a mind-boggling strike rate of 189.68, which included fifties in crucial games against South Africa, Zimbabwe and Netherlands.
These feats also catapulted him to top of the ICC T20I batting rankings.
New Zealand were happy to have kept India down below 200, thanks to that last over from Tim Southee took a hat-trick and conceded just 5 off it.
During the run chase, New Zealand needed Finn Allen (0) to fire, but he fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second ball of the innings.
Though Devon Conway (25) got a partnership of 56 runs with Williamson, neither of them were able to up the tempo, barring one Washington Sundar (1/24) over that fetched them 17 runs.
Part-time spinner Hooda ended New Zealand's innings, after picking up three wickets in the penulitmate over. He bowled an economical spell, registering figures of 4/10 in 2.5 overs.
With this win, India are 1-0 up against Kiwis in the three-match T20I series with the first one in Wellington was abandoned due to incessant rains.
