J&K Govt Announces 100% Fee Waiver for AAY Students in Govt Schools and Colleges

: In a major relief for economically weaker families, the & Government, led by Chief Minister , has announced a 100% fee waiver for students belonging to Antyodaya Anna Yojana ( ) families studying in Government Schools (Classes 9 to 12) and Government Degree Colleges across the Union Territory.

The announcement was made through a post by the Office of the Chief Minister on X, stating that the decision fulfils a key commitment made in the Budget and reflects the government's focus on making education more accessible and affordable for underprivileged students.

Under the new initiative, eligible students from AAY households will be exempted from paying tuition and other applicable fees in government educational institutions. The move is expected to ease the financial burden on thousands of low-income families and encourage greater access to higher and secondary education.

The government said the initiative aims to ensure that no deserving student is forced to discontinue education due to financial constraints. It also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive growth and strengthening educational opportunities for students from economically disadvantaged sections of society.

Further guidelines regarding the implementation of the fee waiver are expected to be issued by the concerned departments.

LeT Commander Zakir Ganai Kill€d in Joint Anti-Terror Operation in

: A commander of the banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Zakir Ganai, was killed during the ongoing anti-terror operation in Shopian, officials said.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, Zakir Ganai had been trapped during the five-day-long operation before being neutralised in a joint action.

The operation was carried out by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Following the operation, J&K Police posted on X: "You Can Run But You Can't Hide!"

The operation in the area remains underway as security forces continue search and sanitisation efforts.

Amarnath Yatris take free ride on RAAHI: Hop Jammu buses along Chenab Line

: The District Administration Jammu today gave Yatris a free ride on the : Hop Jammu bus service along its Chenab Line, offering pilgrims currently in the city a look at 's heritage sites before they proceed to the Kashmir Valley.

The group visited Fort, Pandav Gufa, Jia Pota Ghat, Sant Baba Sunder Singh Ji Gurudwara and the ancient Kameshwar Temple.

RAAHI: Hop Jammu is a fleet of air-conditioned e-buses operating on four hop-on hop-off routes: Tirath, Chenab, Sarhad and Fun Line, covering the city's temples, heritage sites, border landmarks and recreational spots.

The Chenab Line had earlier undergone trial runs to test timings and halts and today's ride will help fine-tune schedules and boarding points further.

Online bookings for all routes open from July 8, through online mode only. The service moves into full commercial operation from July 10, with a daily pass giving unlimited hop-on hop-off access across all routes.

Once operational, the buses will run at regular intervals, depending on the route, with a tour guide on board. More information will be shared by the district administration.

Heavy Rain Triggers Flash Floods in Doda's Thathri; Dozens of Houses, Shops, Vehicles Damaged, NH-244 Closed

: Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods and mudslides in Thathri town of Doda district on Tuesday, causing widespread damage to houses, shops, vehicles and public infrastructure, while forcing the closure of the Doda–Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244).

According to officials, floodwaters carrying large volumes of mud, stones and debris swept through several localities of Thathri, inundating residential and commercial areas. Dozens of houses and shops suffered damage, while several vehicles were buried under debris or washed away by the strong currents.

The heavy rainfall also triggered landslides and mudslides at multiple locations along NH-244, blocking the strategic highway and disrupting traffic between Doda and Kishtwar districts.

Authorities have launched restoration and clearance operations to remove debris from affected areas and reopen the highway. Officials said assessment of the damage is underway, while teams remain on alert in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

No loss of life has been reported so far. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid travelling through vulnerable areas until weather conditions improve and roads are declared safe.

Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide Near Kwar Project in Kishtwar, Jammu-Kishtwar NHW Closed at Prem Nagar

: : Heavy rainfall has triggered a major landslide near the 540 MW Kwar Power Project in Kishtwar, burying several vehicles under debris.

Officials told that multiple vehicles sustained extensive damage and remain trapped beneath the landslide material. Debris clearance operations are currently underway to retrieve the stranded vehicles and restore the affected area.

In a related development, the Jammu-Kishtwar National Highway has been closed at Prem Nagar in Doda since last night due to heavy rainfall and landslides.

The administration has issued a heavy rain alert for the Kishtwar area. All pilgrims and locals have been appealed to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the administration's advisory.

"Stay safe and cooperate with authorities," officials said.
