JOURIAN: Municipal Committee Jourian organised a capacity-building and awareness session on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026, today at Government Girls High School, Jourian, aimed at creating awareness about key regulatory provisions and encouraging sustainable waste practices across the town.
The technical session was conducted by Mr. Tapan, Capacity Building Expert, who shared practical insights into the compliance requirements under the updated SWM Rules, 2026. The orientation focused heavily on mandatory source segregation through the four-bin collection model, which categorises waste into wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste, and special care waste.
Participants were also educated on proper waste handling techniques and the statutory obligations placed on Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs). The session highlighted the need for institutions and commercial entities to manage waste responsibly at the source, helping to lower the burden on municipal landfills and support local processing efficiency.
The event saw active participation from local teachers, students from various schools, sanitation workers, Community Mobilizers, the Sanitary Inspector, and the Tax Inspector of Municipal Committee Jourian. The interactive setup allowed attendees to clarify operational questions and discuss ways to keep public spaces clean.
The initiative closed with a shared pledge from officials and community members to support the rollout of the SWM Rules, 2026 and work together toward a cleaner, environmentally conscious Jourian.
