Studio Lotus has designed a Flagship Store and Museum of Meenakari in Jaipur for the well-known Indian jewellery designer Sunita Shekhawat paying homage to the art of Meenakari.

Founded in 2002 by Ambrish Arora, Ankur Choksi and Sidhartha Talwar, Studio Lotus is acknowledged as a thought leader in the country for its work in the domain of Architecture and Spatial Design. Their work is grounded on the principles of Conscious design, an approach that celebrates local resources, cultural influences, a keen attention to detail and an inclusive process. They follow an iterative and incremental methodology of innovation and root our learning in history and local context. They like taking design to an extremely conceptual stage and find inspiration in ordinary things, everyday events and chance encounters.

Their design process looks at sustainability through the multiple lenses of cultural, social and environmental impact. There is an active engagement in integrating localised skills and resources with state-of-the art materials and technologies.

Their latest project, The Art of Meenakari, or enamel work, is an age-old technique renowned for its vibrant and intricate designs on metal surfaces. This 16th-century art is the foundation for the work of well-known Indian jewellery designer Sunita Shekhawat. Her eponymous brand lends a fresh spin to the age-old tradition with timeless yet contemporary jewellery. The design for the brand’s Flagship Store and Museum of Meenakari in Jaipur pays homage to this approach, a nod to the region's vibrant cultural heritage amidst a fast-evolving cosmopolitan landscape.

The Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center by MVRDV transforms an old mixed-use tower into a vibrant and colourful skyscraper!

MVRDV was founded in 1993 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries. Now, the three founding partners lead a dynamic and optimistic team of over 300 alongside partners Frans de Witte, Fokke Moerel, Wenchian Shi, Jan Knikker, and Bertrand Schippan. Based in Rotterdam, Shanghai, Paris, Berlin, and New York, they have a global scope, providing solutions to contemporary architectural and urban issues in all regions of the world. Their highly collaborative, research-based design method involves clients, stakeholders, and experts from a wide range of fields from early on in the creative process. The results are exemplary, outspoken projects that enable our cities and landscapes to develop towards a better future.

The Shenzhen Women & Children’s Center transforms an old mixed-use tower into a vibrant and colourful skyscraper hosting a hotel and a wide range of facilities for the welfare of women and children: a library, an auditorium, a children’s theatre and “discovery hall”, as well as therapy rooms and offices for staff.
