CM seals and buries Sikkim’s Time Capsule
GANGTOK, August 21(IPR): Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay marked a historic moment by sealing and burying the Time Capsule 2025-2075 at the Rustomji Deer Park, located within the Tashiling Secretariat premises Thursday morning.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the sealing of the Time Capsule 2025-2075 as a landmark moment in the history of Sikkim and praised the Information and Public Relations (IPR) department for conceptualising and bringing the project to life.
He stated that during the momentous occasion of Sikkim’s 50th State Day, he, along with Governor Om Prakash Mathur, initiated the process of adding items to the Time Capsule 2025-2075 at Paljor Stadium.
He applauded the participation of schools, colleges, and State departments for their contributions to the Time Capsule, and expressed his delight at the overwhelming response, noting that 534 individuals had submitted their letters via email.
He also expressed appreciation for the meticulous efforts of the IPR department in ensuring the proper preservation of all artefacts, including the use of specialised paper and ink designed to withstand the passage of time and changing conditions.
Emphasising the significance of the initiative, the Chief Minister remarked that customs, traditions, and even place names evolve over time, and therefore it is imperative to preserve the heritage and identity of the present for future generations.
He described the Time Capsule as a gift of memory and hope for future generations, as well as a reminder of the State’s remarkable journey over the past 50 years. Reflecting on Sikkim’s progress since Statehood, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the State would continue to achieve even greater milestones in the next five decades.
He further remarked that when the capsule is opened in 2075, it will offer future generations a vivid glimpse into the values, lives, and achievements of the people of 2025.
The Chief Minister also reassured the gathering that those who missed the chance to contribute this time may have opportunities to do so in the future.
When the capsule is unsealed in 2075, he said, he hopes the tale of Sikkim's tenacity, development, and solidarity will motivate future generations.
