A vehicle bearing a Sikkim registration was allegedly attacked at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) after the driver reportedly refused to pay a forced donation to local groups, triggering anger and concern within Sikkim’s transport community.

As per reports, the incident took place when the driver, who had travelled from Sikkim to NJP to receive passengers, was confronted by unidentified individuals demanding money as “donation.” Upon his refusal, the miscreants allegedly vandalised the vehicle.

NDPS Case Detected at Melli Checkpost

Namchi District, October 8:
In a significant action against drug trafficking, the Melli PS team intercepted two individuals at Melli Checkpost, identified as Manish Tamang (30 years), s/o Late Phurba Tamang, r/o Majhigaon, Jorethang, and his wife Passang Lhamu Sherpa (21 years) who were suspected of carrying contraband substances.

Following due legal procedures, a body search of the suspects was conducted in the presence of two independent witnesses and the Magistrate (MEO Jorethang), which led to the recovery of 17.38 grams of suspected brown sugar.

A case has been registered against the duo under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigation is currently underway.

Mr Lall Bahadur Chettri Assumes Office as Superintendent of Police, Mangan District

Mangan, October 7 (IPR): Mr Lall Bahadur Chettri formally assumed charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mangan District today. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented by the district police to mark his official joining.

Mr Chettri’s appointment as SP, Mangan, was made in September 2025. Prior to this posting, he served as the Additional Superintendent of Police at the Police Training Centre, Yangang.

Upon his assumption of office, Mr Chettri was warmly welcomed by the officers and personnel of Mangan District Police. His joining marks the beginning of a new phase of leadership for the district police administration, aimed at maintaining law and order and strengthening community policing in the region.

CM Prem Singh Tamang Meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi; Discusses Sikkim’s Development and Extends Invitation to Visit State

New Delhi | Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay met Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi and conveyed the people of Sikkim’s profound gratitude for his visionary leadership, continued support, and encouragement that have guided the state’s journey of peace, progress, and prosperity.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on the historic launch of GST 2.0, describing it as a transformative reform aimed at strengthening ease of doing business, empowering small and medium enterprises, advancing cooperative federalism, and reducing the tax burden on citizens.

CM Tamang also recalled the Prime Minister’s gracious consent to visit Sikkim during the Golden Jubilee of Statehood in May 2025, which had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. He shared that the Prime Minister’s message of encouragement had filled every Sikkimese heart with pride and once again extended a warm invitation for him to visit Sikkim towards the end of November 2025.

The Chief Minister further apprised the Prime Minister of several long-pending issues of historical, social, political, and cultural importance for his kind consideration. In response, the Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for Sikkim’s unity, cultural richness, and steady progress, assuring his positive support for the state’s aspirations.

Expressing optimism following the meeting, CM Tamang stated that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Sikkim will continue to move forward with strength, purpose, and dignity toward a golden, prosperous, and secure future.
