Nepal Intensifies Race to Rescue Hundreds Trapped Inside Hydropower Tunnels After Deadly Flash Floods

Nepal has intensified its massive rescue operation to save hundreds of people believed to be trapped inside tunnels at several hydropower projects, including the Trishuli-3A site, following Wednesday’s catastrophic flash floods.

Rescue teams, supported by experts from India and China, are working around the clock to establish contact with those stranded inside the tunnels. However, despite continued efforts, rescuers have so far received no response, raising fears over the fate of those trapped.

The devastating floods have caused unprecedented destruction across the region. In Nepal, at least 794 people have been confirmed dead, while more than 2,500 remain missing. Across the border in Tibet, authorities have reported 16 deaths, with another 546 people still unaccounted for.

The rescue operation continues amid extremely challenging conditions as authorities race against time to reach survivors.
