Sikkim Football Association Holds 41st Annual General Meeting 2026
The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) successfully convened its 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday evening at Hotel Tashi Delek, Gangtok, with the participation of 52 football stakeholders from across the state.
The meeting was attended by Shri. Jigmee Yousar Lepcha, Joint Director - Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Shri. Chewang Zangpo Bhutia - President Sikkim Olympic Association, Shri. Jaslal Pradhan - Arjun Awardee & General Seretary, Sikkim Olympic Assoication, Shri. Sudip Pradhan - Board of Director SISCO Bank, Dr. Remon Chettri and Dr. Thakela - representitive from Sikkim Futsal Committee, Shir. Bikash jairu - eminent player and SFA executive members, representatives from District Football Associations, A-Division clubs, and other distinguished guests.
In his presidential address, SFA President **Menla Ethenpa** highlighted the Association's continued commitment to football development through its annual calendar of activities and regular participation in competitions organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). He noted key achievements during the year, including Sikkim Brotherhood FC's participation in the I-League 3, the international women's friendly match between India and Nepal at Paljor Stadium, referee development programs, and coaching education initiatives.
While acknowledging the progress made in sports infrastructure and football development across the state, the President emphasized the need for additional playgrounds and alternative football grounds, particularly in Gangtok, to strengthen grassroots football and age-group leagues.
A major agenda of the AGM was the discussion on the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act 2025 and the necessary amendments to the SFA Constitution to align with the new governance framework. SFA General Secretary **Phurba Sherpa** presented a detailed overview of the Act, its implications for state and district football associations, and the constitutional changes required under the new regulations. Members unanimously approved the proposed constitutional amendments in line with the latest AIFF Constitution and the Sports Governance Act 2025.
The meeting also featured an open-house discussion where representatives from district associations and clubs shared their achievements, challenges, and suggestions for the future growth of football in Sikkim.
SFA felicitated footballer **Abhista Basnett** and physiotherapist **Dr. Yashna Chhetri** for proudly representing India at the AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup 2026, bringing honor to the state and the nation.
The AGM also adopted the audited financial reports for the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
SFA President Menla Ethenpa expressed his gratitude to all participants, special invitees, district associations, club representatives, and the SFA team for their valuable contributions and support in making the AGM a grand success.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by SFA Working President Mrs. Chung Chung Bhutia.
