Sikkim Football Association Holds 41st Annual General Meeting 2026

The Sikkim Football Association (SFA) successfully convened its 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday evening at Hotel Tashi Delek, Gangtok, with the participation of 52 football stakeholders from across the state.

The meeting was attended by Shri. Jigmee Yousar Lepcha, Joint Director - Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Shri. Chewang Zangpo Bhutia - President Sikkim Olympic Association, Shri. Jaslal Pradhan - Arjun Awardee & General Seretary, Sikkim Olympic Assoication, Shri. Sudip Pradhan - Board of Director SISCO Bank, Dr. Remon Chettri and Dr. Thakela - representitive from Sikkim Futsal Committee, Shir. Bikash jairu - eminent player and SFA executive members, representatives from District Football Associations, A-Division clubs, and other distinguished guests.

In his presidential address, SFA President **Menla Ethenpa** highlighted the Association's continued commitment to football development through its annual calendar of activities and regular participation in competitions organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). He noted key achievements during the year, including Sikkim Brotherhood FC's participation in the I-League 3, the international women's friendly match between India and Nepal at Paljor Stadium, referee development programs, and coaching education initiatives.

While acknowledging the progress made in sports infrastructure and football development across the state, the President emphasized the need for additional playgrounds and alternative football grounds, particularly in Gangtok, to strengthen grassroots football and age-group leagues.

A major agenda of the AGM was the discussion on the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act 2025 and the necessary amendments to the SFA Constitution to align with the new governance framework. SFA General Secretary **Phurba Sherpa** presented a detailed overview of the Act, its implications for state and district football associations, and the constitutional changes required under the new regulations. Members unanimously approved the proposed constitutional amendments in line with the latest AIFF Constitution and the Sports Governance Act 2025.

The meeting also featured an open-house discussion where representatives from district associations and clubs shared their achievements, challenges, and suggestions for the future growth of football in Sikkim.

SFA felicitated footballer **Abhista Basnett** and physiotherapist **Dr. Yashna Chhetri** for proudly representing India at the AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup 2026, bringing honor to the state and the nation.

The AGM also adopted the audited financial reports for the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26.

SFA President Menla Ethenpa expressed his gratitude to all participants, special invitees, district associations, club representatives, and the SFA team for their valuable contributions and support in making the AGM a grand success.

Mrs. Kabita Sapkota, Chairperson of the Sikkim Commission for Backward Classes, held a meeting with Madam Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti Ji, Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), at the Commission’s Office in New Delhi.

During the meeting, issues pertaining to the welfare, development and empowerment of Backward Classes were discussed. The deliberations focused on strengthening institutional coordination and advancing initiatives aimed at the socio-economic upliftment of backward communities.

Madam Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti Ji also expressed her appreciation for the natural beauty and rich biodiversity of Sikkim and conveyed her interest in visiting the State’s renowned orchid gardens in the future.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to promoting the interests and welfare of Backward Classes through continued cooperation between the National and State Commissions.

ROAD UPDATE | June 08, 2026

As per the latest Road Situation Report issued by Sikkim Police:

• Singtam–Dikchu Road remains closed for repair works till June 21, 2026.
• Ravangla–Yangang Road is blocked at Gogunay.
• Sopakha–Chiwabhanjang Road remains blocked.
• Chungthang–Lachen Road is blocked; a footbridge has been installed at Taramchu.
• Lachen–Thangu Road is blocked at Puchi due to a landslide.

NH-10 is clear, while most other roads across the state remain motorable. Certain North Sikkim routes are open only for light vehicles.

Commuters and tourists are advised to verify the latest road conditions before travelling and follow directions issued by the authorities.

Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, inspected the Rangpo–Ranipool stretch of National Highway 10 (NH-10) in Sikkim this morning (8/6/26) and reviewed the progress of ongoing slope stabilization and road safety projects.

During the inspection, the Minister assessed various infrastructure measures being implemented to improve the highway's resilience, including micropiling, RCC retaining walls, river training works, rockfall barriers, and hillside stabilization systems.

He also reviewed the proposed 240-metre cut-and-cover tunnel planned under the NH-10 upgradation project, aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing disruptions caused by landslides and adverse weather conditions.

The ongoing initiatives are expected to strengthen connectivity, improve commuter safety, and ensure reliable all-weather access across Sikkim, benefiting residents, tourists, and transport operators alike.

CM P.S. Tamang Mourns Death of Four Lingdok Residents

Gangtok, June 7: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of four residents of Lingdok under the Kabi-Lungchok constituency, who lost their lives while travelling to Siliguri on June 5.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family members, praying that they find strength and courage to cope with the immense loss. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Shares:

I had the privilege of attending the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Nepali Sahitya Adhyayan Samiti in Kalimpong.

Congratulating the Samiti on completing 60 years of dedicated service to the promotion of Nepali language, literature and culture, I lauded its invaluable contribution towards preserving our linguistic and literary heritage since its establishment in 1965.

In my address, I highlighted the transformative role of literature in shaping society and emphasized the importance of preserving our language, culture, traditions and identity. I called upon all stakeholders to work collectively towards safeguarding and promoting our rich heritage for future generations.

I also shared various initiatives undertaken by the Government of Sikkim, including the observance of Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas, celebrated on the birth anniversary of Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari, Ethnic Attire Day, and the establishment of institutions dedicated to the promotion of indigenous languages.

Reflecting on the shared literary and cultural legacy, I paid tribute to the pioneers of the Nepali Language Movement and acknowledged the contributions of literary icons, intellectuals and organizations that strengthened the cause of Nepali language and literature.

As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to preserving and promoting our language, literature and cultural heritage. I extend my heartfelt best wishes to the Nepali Sahitya Adhyayan Samiti for its continued success and greater achievements in the years ahead.

BJP Sikkim State President DR Thapa today paid a courtesy call on Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, during his visit to Gangtok.

Thapa extended a warm welcome to the Minister and expressed sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their unwavering commitment to strengthening road infrastructure across Sikkim. He noted that the Centre’s sustained focus on connectivity is playing a transformative role in accelerating development and improving the lives of people in the state.

During the interaction, Ajay Tamta informed that the Ministry is currently implementing and pursuing road infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹8,376 crore in Sikkim.
