“Kupwara Police Solves Masjid Theft Case Within 10 Hours; Stolen Property Recovered, Accused Arrested”

Dated: 07.08.2026: Police Station Sogam successfully solved a theft case involving a copper water tank belonging to a Masjid within 10 hours of receiving the complaint.

Acting swiftly, multiple police teams from Police Station Sogam were constituted. Through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage, technical evidence, and other investigative leads, the accused was identified and apprehended.

During the investigation, the stolen copper water tank was recovered, and the vehicle used in the commission of the offence was also seized.

In this regard, FIR No. 34/2026 under the relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Sogam. Further investigation is underway.

Handwara, August 6: MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday interacted with the media regarding the 200 mm diameter Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Lower Rajwar and expressed concern over what he described as repeated acts of sabotage targeting the project.
He alleged that government pipelines had been deliberately damaged on multiple occasions, including the recent uprooting and cutting of pipes, causing delays in the completion of the scheme. He said the matter had been taken up with the district administration and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, adding that an FIR would be lodged against those responsible for damaging government property.
The MLA maintained that despite repeated attempts to obstruct the project, work was nearing completion and the long-pending water supply scheme would soon be commissioned. He said the project would ensure a reliable supply of safe drinking water to several villages in Lower Rajwar.
Sajad Gani Lone also alleged that certain political elements were attempting to politicize the project and claim credit for the work. He urged the public to remain vigilant and not be misled by what he termed as attempts to create hurdles in developmental initiatives.
Reaffirming his commitment to the development of Handwara, the MLA said his priority remains the timely completion of public welfare projects and improving basic infrastructure for the people of the constituency.

Six Months Without Pay, AAYA Workers Urge Government to Release Pending Salaries. Zubeena khan

Kupwara: District President of the AAYA Association, Kupwara, has appealed to Education Minister Sakina Itoo and the Director of Samagra Shiksha to immediately release the pending salaries of AAYA workers, which have remained unpaid for the past six months.
Addressing the issue, the association president zubeena Khan said that AAYA workers receive a monthly honorarium of only ₹5,000, yet they are forced to wait for months to receive even this modest amount. She said the workers, most of whom are women, continue to discharge their duties with dedication despite facing severe financial hardship.
She urged the authorities to take immediate steps to clear the pending dues, saying the honorarium is crucial for meeting the basic needs of the workers and their families. Expressing hope that the government will respond positively, she said the release of salaries would bring much-needed relief and restore smiles on the faces of the AAYA workers.
The association has appealed to the government to ensure timely payment of salaries in the future to avoid further hardship.

*After Decade-Long Wait, Lower Rajwar Water Supply Project Nears Completion; 25,000 Residents Across 13 Villages to Benefit*

Handwara, Aug 5: Bringing relief to thousands of residents after nearly a decade of delay, the much-awaited Lower Rajwar Raw Water Main Project in Handwara is in its final stage, with testing currently underway. Officials said the project is expected to be commissioned later this week.

The project, executed by the PHE Division Handwara/Baramulla, Aijaz Ahmad involves the laying of a 9-kilometre-long, 200 mm diameter Ductile Iron (DI) Raw Water Main, connecting the source to the filtration plant and service reservoir.
Once commissioned, the scheme will provide an improved drinking water supply to nearly 25,000 people across 13 villages, including Dudipora, Bakiakher, Baderher, Budkot, Machipora, Khirman, Nabedzab, Nagranar, Baderkali, Bahadarpora, Goriakher, Wadipora and Lachipora.

Official told that project has reached its final testing phase and will soon be made operational, significantly improving water supply in the Rajwar area.

Local resident Ghulam Hassan expressed happiness over the development, saying the project had remained pending for nearly 10 years.

"We are very happy that this long-pending project is finally becoming a reality. Since Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad took charge, the work has gained momentum and has now reached completion. It is a huge relief for the people of Rajwar," he said.

Another resident, Gowhar Ahmad, appreciated the progress and urged the authorities to expedite other pending drinking water schemes in the area.

"We appeal to Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad to ensure that the remaining water supply projects are also completed at the earliest so that more villages can benefit from reliable drinking water facilities," he said.

The commissioning of the Lower Rajwar Water Supply Project is expected to address a long-standing drinking water shortage in the region and significantly improve access to safe and dependable water for thousands of residents.
