A frustrated passenger’s voice

Today I had to travel from Kalimpong to Siliguri. With NH-10 blocked, the only option was via Panbu–Gorubathan. But the journey turned into exploitation. I paid ₹400 for a shared vehicle — no official rate, no receipt. Some paid ₹350, others ₹1000, especially tourists heading to Lava. Who decides these fares? Where is the regulation?

Ironically, while passengers suffered, the Drivers’ Association was busy honoring leaders. No one cared to address our issues.

When the main highway is closed, isn’t it their duty to fix clear fares? But no — we're left at the mercy of syndicates and silence.

Sadly, we are the ones to blame — we put these people in power.

A big round of applause for Leenormit Lepcha, a Class IX student from Eklavya Model Residential School, Swayem, who has been selected for ISRO’s prestigious Young Scientist Programme – YUVIKA 2025!

This isn’t just a personal victory—it’s a beacon of hope and inspiration for students across remote and tribal regions of Sikkim. Leenormit will attend the programme at ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad, from May 13 to May 31, 2025.

He Died So We May Live:
Lt. Sasank Tiwari’s Brave Sacrifice.🇮🇳🇮🇳

Gangtok/Siliguri, 23 May – In a tragic mishap during a routine patrol in North Sikkim’s Chhu Junction area, Lieutenant Sasank Tiwari of the Indian Army lost his life on 22 May while leading his team through treacherous high-altitude terrain close to the Line of Actual Control with China.

While trekking on foot with five soldiers, Lt. Tiwari reportedly slipped and was swept away by a fast-flowing mountain drain, likely swollen from snowmelt or rain. Despite swift rescue efforts, he could not be saved. His body was later recovered and brought to the Siliguri Military Hospital.

A promising young officer, Lt. Tiwari was known for his courage and commitment. He was a leader, a son of the soil who wore the uniform with pride, and stood guard in a land of ice and silence so we could sleep in peace.
