Manoj K. Jayan’s performance as Digambaran in Ananthabhadram (2005) is widely regarded as one of the most iconic villain performances in Malayalam cinema.
What makes it exceptional is the physicality and unpredictability of the character. His cold eyes, sinister smile, unusual body movements, explosive dialogue delivery and eerie laughter create a villain who feels genuinely dangerous without relying solely on loudness. The character also carries an unsettling blend of cruelty, madness and dark humour.
Jayan himself has said that Digambaran was an extremely heavy character for him. After the shoot, he reportedly struggled to come out of the character and was bedridden with fever for several weeks. He also described the challenge of making such an exaggerated black-magic character believable to Malayalam audiences.
