বায়োস্কোপ—শব্দটি শুনলেই একসময়কার মেলার মাঠ, গ্রামের হাটবাজার বা শহরের রাস্তার মোড়ের কথা মনে পড়ে। এটি ছিল সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য বিনোদনের এক সহজ ও চমকপ্রদ মাধ্যম, যেখানে ঘূর্ণায়মান চিত্রের মাধ্যমে গল্প বলা হতো। ছোটবেলায় আমরা অনেকেই রঙিন কাপড়ের ঘেরা দেওয়া একটি বাক্সের মধ্যে চোখ লাগিয়ে সিনেমার দৃশ্য দেখতাম, যা ছিল আমাদের কাছে এক অপূর্ব অভিজ্ঞতা।

বায়োস্কোপের মাধ্যমে আমরা সিনেমার দৃশ্য দেখতে পেতাম, যা একধরনের হাত চালিত চলমান চিত্র প্রদর্শনী ছিল। সাধারণত, যাদুকরের মতো পোশাক পরিহিত একজন ব্যক্তি এটি পরিচালনা করতেন। তিনি দর্শকদের আকৃষ্ট করতে জোরে জোরে গান গাইতেন বা বলতেন—
"চোখ লাগাও বায়োস্কোপে, দেখবে দিল চুরি!"
বায়োস্কোপের মধ্যে মূলত পুরোনো হিন্দি সিনেমার দৃশ্য, রাজা-বাদশাহের গল্প, দেশপ্রেমমূলক ছবি কিংবা বিভিন্ন ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনার চিত্র প্রদর্শিত হতো। আমরা রীতিমতো সিনেমার মতোই আগ্রহ নিয়ে এটি উপভোগ করতাম, যদিও তখন বুঝতে পারতাম না যে এটি মূলত স্টিল ছবির চলমান প্রদর্শনী মাত্র।
সিনেমার প্রতি আকর্ষণের সূচনা

বায়োস্কোপ ছিল আমাদের সিনেমা দেখার প্রথম ধাপ। তখন টেলিভিশন এত সহজলভ্য ছিল না, আর সিনেমা হলেও যাওয়া অনেকের জন্য সম্ভব হতো না। ফলে এই ছোট্ট বাক্সের মধ্যেই আমরা আমাদের প্রথম "সিনেমা দেখার" স্বাদ পেতাম। পরবর্তীতে যখন সেই একই সিনেমা বড় পর্দায় দেখার সুযোগ পেতাম, তখন এক অন্যরকম আনন্দ হতো। যেন সেই ছোটবেলার বায়োস্কোপের ছবিগুলোই জীবন্ত হয়ে উঠেছিল।
বিলুপ্তির পথে এক ঐতিহ্য

তবে, এটি আমাদের শৈশবের এক অমূল্য স্মৃতি হয়ে আছে। মাঝে মাঝে পুরনো দিনের মেলায় বা বিশেষ প্রদর্শনীতে বায়োস্কোপের দেখা মেলে, যা আমাদের আবার সেই সোনালি দিনে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে যায়।

The word "Bioscope" immediately brings to mind the fairgrounds, village marketplaces, or city street corners of yesteryear. It was a simple and fascinating form of entertainment for the common people, telling stories through rotating images. Many of us, as children, would peer into a box covered with colorful cloth to watch movie scenes, an extraordinary experience for us.
The Magic of Bioscope

Through the Bioscope, we could watch movie scenes, a kind of hand-operated moving picture show. Typically, a person dressed like a magician operated it. To attract viewers, he would sing or say loudly—
"Look into the Bioscope, and your heart will be stolen!"
The Bioscope primarily showed scenes from old Hindi movies, stories of kings and emperors, patriotic films, or depictions of various historical events. We enjoyed it with the same enthusiasm as a real movie, even though we didn't realize it was just a moving display of still images.
The Beginning of Attraction to Cinema

The Bioscope was our first step into watching movies. Television was not readily available then, and going to the cinema was not possible for many. With the passage of time, the popularity of the Bioscope declined. Television, smartphones, the internet, and modern technology have almost wiped out this traditional form of entertainment. Bioscopes are no longer seen in markets or fairs as they used to be.
However, it remains a precious memory of our childhood. Occasionally, Bioscopes appear at old-fashioned fairs or special exhibitions, taking us back to those golden days.
The Bioscope was not just a form of entertainment; it was an integral part of our childhood. It sparked our interest in cinema, which later drew us to the big screen. Although it is fading away today, the Bioscope will forever remain colorful in our memories.
