Manipur's hill districts witnessed yet another violent flare-up on July 2 as Leikot Kuki Village in Noney district was allegedly attacked and burnt in a pre-dawn assault, extending the trail of violence from Ukhrul, Kamjong and Kangpokpi into another sensitive district.

The Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong and Noney, the apex body representing Kuki tribes in the three districts, has alleged that heavily armed NSCN-IM militants launched the attack at around 5 a.m., using automatic weapons and mortar shells before setting the village ablaze.
