Tibet Explained: Demolishing Chinese narratives on Tibet– brick by brick

Vijay Kranti, a senior Indian journalist and Tibetologist, written a review on "TIBET EXPLAINED – Legal Status, Rights and State Responsibility" by Michael Van Walt Van Praag and Miek Boltjes. The book is a new Indian edition of "Tibet 20/20" and published by Har-Anan.

Challenging the Chinese art of manufacturing history of convenience, a book that convincingly exposes all those narratives which china is using as a weapon to make world accept its colonial occupation of Tibet, East Turkistan and South Mongolia as it ‘internal matters’.

Tibetan, Hong Kong, East Turkestan, South Mongolian activists and Chinese dissidents staged protests against the Chinese Communist Party on its national day, October 1, 2025. They held the protests in Taipei (Taiwan), Toronto (Canada), New York (United States), London (England), Paris (France), Australia and called on the Chinese government (CCP) to end the oppression of their brothers and sisters in Hong Kong, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, China, and Tibet.

They also protested against the elimination of their religion, culture, language and identity under the sinicisation policy of the Chinese government. They further expressed solidarity with those arrested and imprisoned for simply exercising their fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression and freedom of belief in their respective regions.

CCP regime poses a serious threat to the security and development of the global community: oppressed people

People from Tibet, Hong Kong, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia and Taiwan protested against the Chinese Communist Party on the Chinese national day. They stated that the CCP violates the freedom, democracy and human rights of occupied peoples, oppresses its own people, colonises and extends its control over neighbouring countries and peoples. Therefore, the continued existence of the CCP regime poses a serious threat to the security and development of the global community.

They said, "On 1 October, the so-called National Day of China, how many among its 1.4 billion people truly feel joy? And how many citizens of other nations genuinely celebrate? We, civil society organisations from Tibet, Hong Kong, Uyghur, Southern Mongolia and Taiwan, choose to stand together on this day and declare: Resist China, Oppose oppression; human rights shall not yield."

"The establishment and continuation of the CCP regime is not a positive contribution to the international community, but a constant violation of freedom, democracy and human rights by exporting authority, oppressing its own people, colonizing and expanding surrounding countries and peoples. These violations are concrete and profound in different regions and pose serious challenges to the security and development of the global community," they added.

China Further Tightens Restrictions in Tibet Ahead of National Holiday

The National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays will last from Wednesday to October 8, 2025 throughout China. Several state-controlled media outlets have claimed that this extended holiday period allows Chinese citizens to enjoy eight days off to travel and relax. However, in contrast, stricter restrictions were immediately imposed in the occupied territories, particularly in Tibet, East Turkistan, and Inner Mongolia, under pretexts such as illegal driving, lack of driver's licenses, or overloading vehicles with passengers.

For instance, more than a hundred people have already been arrested in Lithang County in eastern Tibet, many of whom face prison sentences, while several others have also been detained in various areas of Nyagchukha County in eastern Tibet. At the same time, according to reliable local sources in Tibet who spoke with TPI, a larger deployment of police personnel has been reported in the form of a joint force in both counties.

UN expert expresses concern over removal of the word “Tibet” from French museums

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights has issued an official statement expressing deep concern over the removal of the word "Tibet" from exhibitions organised by major French museums. She asserts that replacing the word "Tibet" with “Xizang” or "Himalayan world" undermines the rights of Tibetans to enjoy their cultural heritage and to self-determination.

The UN Special Rapporteur wrote, "I express my concern towards the changes in the Tibetan nomenclature in some French museal institutions. I am deeply concerned that the removal of the Tibetan-preferred terminology in favour of denominations that are more acceptable to the Chinese authority undermines the Tibetan rights to enjoy cultural heritage and to selfdetermination, through the presentation of a mistaken representation of their history, territory and cultural heritage. I am also concerned about the fact that the denomination changes seem to serve the sinicisation policy of Tibetan heritage as implemented by the Chinese authorities."
