A youth was seriously injured in a suspected machete attack at Bakulia on Wednesday.

According to reports, 29-year-old Sanjib Teron was walking along a road when unidentified assailants allegedly attacked him from a vehicle. One of the attackers reportedly struck him on the face with a machete before fleeing the scene.

Sanjib sustained severe facial injuries and was rushed to Diphu Medical College and Hospital for treatment. His condition is currently under medical observation.

Police have launched an investigation to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the incident. Further details are awaited.

The 8th Annual General Conference of the Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA) is being held at the Khorsing Terang Memorial Mini Stadium Complex in Dillai, bringing together members of the Karbi community from different areas.

In a strong show of protest, the Karbi Students Association (KSA–Inglongpho) staged a demonstration in front of Manja Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2026.

The KSA alleged that a businessman, identified as Sukur Ali, has been running his business without a valid license. The organization also accused him of dumping garbage near a local school in Manja, raising serious concerns over sanitation and public health.

As part of their demands, the KSA called for strict action against the accused, the transfer of officials from Manja Police Station, and a complete shutdown of Manja Bazaar.

Tension briefly prevailed in the area as protestors gathered, urging the authorities to take immediate steps to address the issue.
