*Winter Vacation in Schools in Kargil Till March 15 Due to Heavy Snowfall*

Kargil, Feb 26: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, chaired a meeting today at the Council Secretariat to review the ongoing winter conditions and their impact on educational institutions. In view of heavy snowfall and extreme cold, the CEC announced an extension of winter vacations for both government and private institutions till March 15, 2025.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Suse, and Chief Education Officer Kargil. The decision was taken considering the safety and well-being of students and staff amid the harsh weather conditions in the region.

Delhi Election Result 2025 Live: At 2 pm, with leads available for all 70 seats, the BJP remained well above the majority mark with 48 seats against AAP's 22. Importantly, as counting progressed into the final rounds in most constituencies, the AAP reduced its vote share gap with the BJP to 2.8 per cent. MP Ladakh Mohd Hanefa Jan and EC Er. Punchok Tashi meet Secretary MNRE in Delhi

Kargil, January 31, 2025: The Member of Parliament (MP) from Ladakh, Mohd Hanefa Jan accompanied by Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi called on Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) at Energy Bhawan, Delhi on Jan 30, 2025.

During the meeting, they held a detailed discussion on KREDA, the Ladakh Renewable Energy Initiative, and other related activities.

The MP and EC requested for sanction of LREI phase 2nd for Ladakh and Small Hydro Project as well as Solar Power Plant.

Secretary MNRE appreciated the role of KREDA Kargil in implementing Renewable Energy Development like small Hydro Power and assured that more schemes shall be explored for Ladakh in coming days.

In Ladakh, the much-anticipated 4th LG Cup Ice Hockey 2024-25 concluded at Ice Hockey Rink Biamathang Kargil with thrilling matches and remarkable performances, solidifying Ladakh's status as the hub of ice hockey in India.
In the men’s final, the LSRC Army Team emerged victorious, defeating the ITBP Team by a narrow margin of one goal in a nail-biting finale. Meanwhile, the ITBP Women’s Team dominated the women’s category, defeating the LWIHF Team with an impressive score line of 9-0, showcasing their supremacy in the tournament.
The event was graced by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), who praised the high spirit of Kargil's people and commended the organizing committee for delivering an extraordinary sporting event. The LG assured the timely completion of the incomplete International Standard All-Weather Ice Hockey Rink in Kargil and proposed the addition of an amphitheatre to improve the viewing experience for spectators in the Ice Hockey Rink Biamathang Kargil. Brig. Dr BD Mishra expressed hope that teams from Ladakh will soon represent India on the international stage.

Friends Pashkum & Downhill Kargil Lifted the Trophy In Men's & Women's finale of 16th CEC Cup Ice Hockey

In Ladakh, the growing popularity of ice hockey is transforming the region into a national hub for winter sports. With its natural ice rinks, passionate athletes, and supportive infrastructure, Ladakh is quickly establishing itself as a prominent destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

The 16th CEC Cup Ice Hockey Championship concluded at the Ice Hockey Rink Bemathang, Kargil, showcased this growth. The tournament featured 32 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, highlighting the widespread enthusiasm for the sport.

In the Men’s Final, Friends Pashkum defeated Drass Warriors in a thrilling penalty shootout, thanks to the stellar contributions of their goalkeeper, Irfan Ali. Irfan's match-winning saves were instrumental in securing the 4-2 victory after the match ended in a draw during regulation and extra time. His exceptional performance earned him the title of Best Goalie of the Tournament, symbolizing the rising standard of talent in Ladakh’s ice hockey scene.

The Women’s Final saw Down Hill Kargil defeat Bodh Kharboo with a commanding 2-0 scoreline. Samina from Down Hill Kargil was named Player of the Series (Women) for her consistent brilliance, while Maryam of DKAS Kargil earned the Best Women Goalie award for her outstanding defensive contributions.

Dr. Mohd Jaffar, Chairman and CEC, LAHDC Kargil while talking to media emphasized Ladakh's potential to become a global winter sports destination. “Athletes like Irfan Ali and others are proving that Ladakh has immense talent. CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon Meets Home Minister Amit Shah, Pushes for Inclusion of Local Languages and Development Initiatives in Ladakh

New Delhi, January 2: The Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address developmental and linguistic demands for the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Dr. Akhoon strongly demanded for the inclusion of Purgi/ Balti as the first official languages of Ladakh, highlighting that over 62% of the population uses these languages. He emphasized the importance of preserving the linguistic heritage of the region. Additionally, he called for the recognition of Sheena/Dardi as an additional official language to represent the diverse linguistic culture of Kargil Ladakh.

The CEC also put forth a demand for the creation of two new districts in Ladakh — one for the Sankoo subdivision and another for Shakar Chiktan -Shargole Sub Division. He stated that the move would enhance administrative efficiency and bring governance closer to the people in these areas.

He also put-forth the need to start civil aircraft services in Kargil Ladakh, particularly during the harsh winter months. Dr. Akhoon underscored that improved air connectivity would not only boost tourism but also ensure essential transportation for residents during the region’s challenging winter season.

He also discussed various issues of Aakashwani Kargil.

Home Minister Amit Shah assured Dr. Jaffer to thoroughly examine these demands and explore all possible solutions for their implementation.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Akhoon also met with the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and raised various demands who expressed a positive response to the demand for enhanced air connectivity in Ladakh and assured full cooperation in addressing the matter.
