The executive meeting of the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha1 (NBMM) was held on 14 September at Bishnupriya Manipuri Bhawan, Silchar, Assam. The meeting clarified that the Government of Assam has not yet issued any notification on the medium of instruction for Bishnupriya Manipuri under NEP 2020, which would allow children to learn in their mother tongue at the foundation stage. NBMM1 reassured the community that it has no role in delaying the implementation of NEP 2020.

The tussle at SCERT was explained as being related to the manuscript of language books, a task entrusted to the BM Sahitya Sabha following the SCERT meeting held on 22 August 2022. The meeting also condemned Advocate Biswadev Sinha for making baseless statements, Chaired by Working President Anil Rajkumar, the meeting once again urged the Government of Assam to take an early decision on the medium of instruction to pave the way for effective implementation of NEP 2020.

The sudden closure of Pata Baba’s darbar and the suspension of his divine medicated leaf distribution has triggered anger and disappointment among thousands of followers. Many have raised concerns over the responsibility and preparedness of the local administration.

Satya Sinha, popularly known as Ghorerbon – “ PATA BABA”, is revered for his divine leaf, which followers believe was granted to him by Maa Durga in a dream for providing relief from various diseases (রোগ). For several days, he had been serving devotees by distributing this leaf. Local administration, however ordered the darbar closed until after Durga Puja, citing disorder caused by a crowd of over one lakh followers. BABA’s Followers allege that the authorities failed to act in time to arrange a systematic distribution process and instead took the extreme step of shutting it down. Many argue this reflects administrative negligence, as alternative crowd-management measures could have been explored. Followers say the closure has deeply hurt those who rely on PATA BABA’s divine leaf for relief from various diseases (রোগ) and for hope and healing.

After the Guwahati High Court’s historic verdict on NEP 2020, Advocate Biswadev Sinha, representing the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam, has been accused of misleading the community and targeting IBM with false propaganda. In the Hon’ble Guwahati High Court, arguments regarding the implementation of NEP 2020 for Bishnupriya Manipuri students to receive education in their mother tongue have gone viral on social media. The case was heard before the Hon’ble Judge, involving two literary groups- the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam (formed in 2021), and the Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha (established in 1984). Sarmah, Senior Advocate of the Guwahati High Court, explaing through media briefed for the interest of the Greater Bishnupriya Manipuri community about today ‘s (08th September) verdict given by the Honarable Guwahati High court on regarding the implementation of NEP 2020 for the Bishnupriya Manipuri community and their students to receive education in their mother tongue.
