Zubeen Garg was an Indian musician, singer, and composer who primarily worked in the Assamese, Bengali, and Hindi film and music industries. Born Zubeen Borthakur in Tura, Meghalaya, on November 18, 1972, he was named after the famous music composer Zubin Mehta. He came from a family with a strong background in literature and music; his father, Mohini Mohon Borthakur, was a magistrate, poet, and lyricist, and his mother, Ily Borthakur, was a singer. He adopted the surname Garg from his family's gotra.

Common names:
English – Ivy gourd
Hindi – Kundru / Tindora
Bengali/Assamese – Patal pata (পাতাল পাতা)
Manipuri – Tairen
Bishnupriya Manipuri - Patali Pata.
It is a climbing vine, and its fruits are small green gourds (like mini-cucumbers).
🌿 Identification (চিনানি)
1. Leaves: Heart-shaped, 3–5 lobes, soft green.
2. Growth habit: A fast-growing vine that climbs on trees, fences, or walls.
3. Fruit: Small, green-striped, turns red when ripe (edible).
4. Flowers: White, star-shaped blossoms.
🌱 Uses in Folk Medicine
Leaves: Used for fever, stomach pain, diabetes management (believed to reduce sugar levels).
Medicinal Uses (Ayurveda & Folk):
Decoction of leaves used for liver and spleen disorders.
Traditionally taken for jaundice, fever, stomach upset, and constipation.
Leaf juice applied on the skin for eczema, boils, and wounds.
Considered a blood purifier.
Fruit: Eaten as a vegetable, rich in beta-carotene and fiber.
Paste: Applied to wounds and skin infections.
⚠️ Warning: While Ivy gourd is commonly eaten as a vegetable, using raw leaf extracts for treatment should be done only under guidance of an Ayurvedic or herbal doctor.
